Pros

I was able to negotiate my hourly rate.

Cons

When they hired me one way to sell me on accepting the job was to emphasize that if the district that I was contracted through liked me, I might get a permanent position with that district. Instead of being contracted through Soliant year to year. So when it came down to me actually getting hired by the district Soliant jumps in and says no. We have a non compete clause and of course I had no idea. So they tell the district who really wanted me that they must pay tens of thousands to release my out of my contract for the following school year! I'm not sure how much it was that they had to pay. But it was a hefty penny. Thankfully the school district agreed and I got the position and I love my new home.

Pros

- The pay is not bad for the most part. You get paid weekly instead of biweekly or monthly. - Good way to start your CFY if you want to dip your toes into a school setting. - I got a placement very quickly (Only a few days). - Decent benefits (401k, medical, dental, vision). - Great support from my supervisor. - Great work/life balance.

Cons

- No pay during the holidays (summer/winter break) - Some miscommunication between the school and the agency. For example, on my first day at work, I was assigned to start at the beginning of the year. When I went to the front office, nobody knew I was the new SLP. The staff and I had to scramble on what to do with me. It was quite confusing and overwhelming. - The school district does not give you full access to their system (e.g., Areies, SEIS) due to not being a direct hire.

Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback! We’re glad to hear you felt supported by your supervisor, appreciated the work/life balance, and found the placement process quick and efficient. We also appreciate your honest comments regarding communication and system access challenges. We understand how frustrating that first-day experience must have been, and we’re continuously working with our school partners to improve onboarding and coordination processes.
