Pros

Most of the people are nice and are happy to help. Talend appears to care about its employees. The company is growing and there is an undeniably massive market opportunity. This is why they were acquired by Thoma Bravo. The benefits package is generally good.

Cons

Despite there being a massive opportunity, it remains to be seen if Talend will have the ability to execute against it. The jury is definitely out on this one. There are many things in the company which lack maturity and are still just as chaotic/shambolic as when I joined years ago. There is a bit of a management clique - most of the senior management have connections to Concur and more than a few of them have done fabulously out of the TB acquisition for actually doing very little. Some of the teams in place offer a very questionable level of contribution. One team which is a TLA starting with G is probably the worst example of this. I happen to know how much some of these guys get paid - no one on the ground level has a clue what they do. There continues to be a brain drain. Most of the most experienced and knowledgeable employees have flown the nest. This continues to be an issue. The employees that come in are bright and well meaning but some lack critical experience. There is blatant favouritism amongst employees especially when it come to promotions and compensation. Some people are also good at dressing up what they do when they actually do a terrible job. If you are going to join Talend, you need to be sure of two things primarily: Does your manager understand what your area of specialism is? Does your manager understand what kind of resources you need and expect to have in order to be successful in your job? If you are going through an interview loop you need to be clear on this and grill them relentlessly to make sure their answers add up.

Pros

* Talend has a great foundation for technical growth with a strong product centered on Talend Studio which generates Java code for data integration using visual drag-and-drop components * Strong Eclipse technology and community are built into Talend Studio * Talend Studio addresses both batch integration (Jobs) and application integration (Routes) * Very rich palette of Components for batch integration Jobs * Generated code for event driven Routes uses Apache Camel which is excellent

Cons

* Poor generated code quality * Generated code for batch Jobs lacks a mature underlying framework (e.g. there is no underlying Spring Batch or equivalent that the generated code uses) * Design palette for Routes is very limited and does not contain most Camel components * Components for Camel Routes are poorly documented * Generated code for both Jobs and Routes is monolithic and not easily extended * Limited re-use and modularity of user designs. There is some, but it is not as robust or manageable as it should be. * Does not make use of modern software frameworks such as Spring. * Very poor tools for authoring SQL
