Pros
1. Target looks absolutely amazing on a resume, especially if you plan on working in retail 2. You are trusted with a large amount of responsibility, even at the entry level positions 3. Promotions are relatively quick, and it is fairly easy to move between different areas of the company 4. If you aren't already an "A" type personality, working for Target will shift you toward that end of the spectrum (out of necessity) 5. Target has a robust charity/ volunteering network
Cons
1. Promotions occur on a set schedule. If you have true skills, talent, and work ethic, their affect on your promotion timing is minimal 2. For entry level positions, bonuses are a joke and not worth the effort required to attain 3. Workload is not evenly distributed across the company. HR is full of people who - shall we say - have "softer" skills, so headcount planning isn't .... planned exactly...(y'know, with math) 4. Employee turnover is quite high because, realistically, if you do well at Target for a couple to a few years, other companies are willing to hire you for substantially higher pay 5. Especially within the Merchandising function, you may be required to temper some aspects of your individuality and just swallow the "Target" Kool-Aid. Not an exaggeration. Some employees receive negative feedback on their reviews because they opted not to walk down to the water cooler with the rest of their team for a "water break"
