Pros

Great clients, as with any agency

Cons

No training for their caregivers. Caregivers are just sent into homes with never having met the clients and a small, generic list of duties, such as “perform adl’s “. Low pay and no benefits Two of the supervisors can be very snobby and rude Shifts changed and canceled at last minute often. When this happens, you’re expected to just wait around for them to tell you when you’re going to be working next. You don’t know if you’re going to be working 12 hrs or 0 hrs that day. Very, very poor communication with caregivers and with clients and clients families Don’t get the sense that they genuinely care about their employees. It seems to be all about the money that they can make. I witnessed multiple incidents where clients were literally left alone because they hadn’t scheduled a caregiver. One had dementia and was left alone for 8 hr periods multiple times. The family complained and left the agency. Very few back up workers when caregivers call in. So the client/client’s family is left without a caregiver for the day at times Multiple caregivers to one home with no consistency. They’ll promise clients at signing of contract that they’ll have one regular caregiver but usually can’t or don’t follow through on this promise Very high turn over rate No schedule for Saturday through Friday until Friday at 5pm. So as an employee, you can’t make weekend plans until Friday at 5pm.

Pros

My experience with Visiting Angels has been very good. The work is very fulfilling and there is a strong sense of community within this organization. We problem solve together and management is very supportive and helpful.

Cons

I have had a very positive experience here. I have worked in the home care industry within a few companies for a very long time and it’s hard work sometimes. What sets Visiting Angels apart is the commitment to its staff, clients and community. This has been especially evident during times of challenge within the industry as a whole such as Covid or unexpected weather events.

Pros

Fairly flexible schedule, not much micromanaging.

Cons

Pay keeps changing and not for the better. I started out as salary, then it changed to per visit, plus a small per hour wage. Now, with the latest change, you don't get the per hour unless you have at least 3 visits a day. seems easy right? nope. Clients cancel the visit for whatever reason, or caregivers call in sick and you cannot do a visit unless the CG is there. It is difficult to get another client to agree to a last minute visit. We have lost clients or clients have had their hours for CG's cut due to government cuts to the VA. This makes having enough clients to see in order to make your weekly quota difficult. Insurance is very expensive and they encourage you to find your own outside of the company. PTO is earned at less than 3 hours a week. No sick time. You spend many nights per week making your schedule and then redoing it when a client cancels or a caregiver calls in. This is all non paid time.
