Pros

Worked here for five years and was working with a great bunch of people who always pulled together and got on. If you like speaking to customers this is the job for you.

Cons

Constant offering of vouchers - one week it was McDonalds and gym vouchers at the same time. Bad planning, no thought, the people in head office don't care and have no experience of shop life, certain managers were good however some management and also very rude. Say goodbye to every holiday and weekend. Out of date produce left in stock rooms, No security on doors. Too much negativity. Constant deliveries with no staff to unpack. I wasn't even a supervisor or trained and was given store keys for about 4 years to run the shop on my own ! yes on my own and the boss would usually just go home early or get a haircut ?! Repetitive job. No staff, rubbish hours. Horrible head office staff who sit on end of phone and don't really have anything helpful to say. The store i was part of hired a trainee supervisor to manage a store for 9 months. If you do want to progress it will take you a long time as i worked there 7/8 years and they promised me a training course.

Pros

Chance to develop prioritization, problem-solving, and “get it done” execution skills. Some team members are hardworking and collaborative, and have experience working with multiple departments and external partners. Note for Candidates Interviewing. Ask detailed questions about role scope, workload expectations, resourcing, and how priorities are set and changed. Pay attention to how communication and feedback are handled, red flags tend to surface early.

Cons

The company is going through changes, but day-to-day support and resourcing have not kept pace. Expectations are very high, while goals and priorities are often unclear or shift frequently. The role may require covering multiple functions, such as project management, people management, and vendor coordination, without the structure or support needed to succeed. Work-life balance is a significant challenge, the workload regularly extends beyond a normal workday, making it difficult to recover and sustain performance over time. There are frequent fire drills that could be reduced with clearer planning and realistic capacity management. When issues arise, feedback can sometimes be delivered publicly, discouraging open communication and making it harder for teams to raise risks early. Professional standards can be inconsistent, and unprofessional team behaviors may be normalized, which is not acceptable in a respectful workplace.
