I worked at Fiberweb full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very complex process that made each day a challenge and interesting. Large plant with a lot of custom equipment which made repairs and upgrades challenging. Great group of hourly people and floor level salary people. Unique product. Great potential both as a product and a business.

    Cons

Management was dictatorial and didn't have a clue how to run the business. Management was trying to run the operation like it was an automotive parts manufacturer.. Management began gutting the operation due to budget issues laying off 50 salaried engineers, supervisors and managers. Then they started gutting maintenance. As a result a vast amount of institutional knowledge left the company. Efficiencies began to lag as no one knew who to do many of the functions that left with the institutional knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Fiberweb was bought out by PGI. I have no knowledge of how PGI operates so I don't have any suggestions. I just hope PGI can get the operation turned around.

    Pros

Laid back, relaxed environment most of the time.

    Cons

Management has the workaholic mentality at 50-60 hrs per week. No room for growth / raises.

    Advice to Management

Overzealous budgets by customer need to be fixed. Quit working so much and see your family.

    Pros

Fiberweb is an interesting place to work and there are constant changes to make the exciting.

It does have strong international ties.

Pay and severance are very good.

    Cons

The constant churn is very off putting. This change not attached to the nature of business and the world we live in. There are regular universal restructurings with Presidents, Directors and structures changing with the seasons.

    Advice to Management

Consistency and the ability for employees to see a positive future state are critical. You have to pay more for talent because of your reputation for purging.

    Pros

This is a very difficult question to answer. If you are one of the few employee's in the U.K. you live fat off of the rest of the company.

    Cons

Reorganize at least 2x a year, no constance of purpose, no direction in the market place or in manufacturing. CEO is a youthful throw back of the 80's on an personal ego trip. He has no understanding of the technology or markets. Additionally the board members that have been choosen to give balance to the CEO are equally inept. This is a company that will emploid. There is a large fraternity of excellent managers that have been laid-off or excused in the past 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Manage the business based on the markets that they serve, develop a balanced strategy (20% specialty and 80% commodity) and resource them appropriately.

    Pros

    Good People and good benefits

    Cons

Bad Management. Quality Management is terrible and others are incompetent, at best. Company had some promise under Fiberweb, but just got worse under PGI now Aventiv. As with some of these raiders, after they have pillaged they change their name to hide their sins.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage people. Knee jerk management is for amateurs and does not foster a long term strategy with employees or the customers. I was there for a few short years and there seemed to always be layoffs, and then hiring again, pathetic. Need to fire top level corporate and start over.
