Great peers, flat org chart, freedom to provide quality ed experience

    Pros

My peers on the instructional teams are chill, skilled, and pleasant to work with. They're very willing to pick up slack if you're sick a day or need to be away from class for an hour. (Each class is led by an "instructional team" of 1-2 instructors, 2-3 mentors, and a student success manager.) The company strikes a decent balance between autonomy and support: the curriculum and tools are mostly laid out for you, but also you're pretty free to make judgment calls for smaller tweaks in the students' interest. I think the workload is reasonable — and there's enough autonomy that you can cut back a little in some areas if you get overloaded in others. The best instructional team members care a lot about giving the students a positive experience and go above and beyond — but I don't feel overly pressured by the company to meet a certain bar, given that I'm internally motivated to provide a quality experience for the students. Most students are very pleasant; University has a lot more lazy students whereas Core has virtually none; a small percentage of students can be disagreeable/unpleasant but overall the positive student feedback makes the job very rewarding.

    Cons

There are pros and cons associated with the fact that the org chart is extremely flat, so you don't have much interactions with management, because there isn't a lot of management. For all the pros of that, it means that there isn't a lot of career guidance, can feel chaotic occasionally, and occasional top-down changes feel like unfunded mandates. It's pretty bottom-up, though management sometimes makes decisions people complain about: changes to tooling, changes to what's the responsibility of which roles. It doesn't feel completely stable (as of January 2023) given factors such as the Simplilearn acquisition, but that's not a negative IMO given the autonomy and more bottom-up culture. Turnover is a little higher than other companies I've worked for, but from my perspective the main factors are reaction to any changes, lack of advancement opportunity for mentors, and the availability of higher-salary jobs for instructors as software engineers elsewhere. Sometimes management makes decisions that feel arbitrary, but I don't personally feel micromanaged. It does feel like the company is able to scale enrollment faster than hiring. Some instructors are assigned to teach a 10-20 person class solo; some instructors are paired for a 20-50 person class (IMO pairing is preferable even despite the large class size — the solo/small class experience ends up being the most painful workload).

    Yikes.

    Pros

Students are passionate and engaged. The original Fullstack mission to get people up to junior level careers was great.

    Cons

Bottom line, management has ruin really solid programs. They do not care to listen to staff or students when it comes to problems and needed solutions; rather point fingers and make up excuses. There is a lack of accountability and professionalism within management which is all coupled with a genuine lack of knowledge as to how a successful bootcamp should/could be run. If you want to have a voice as an educator this is not the right company for you. If you want to be able to have the tools to help your students best learn, this is not the company for you. If you want to be met with professionalism by your boss/management, this company is not right for you. If you want to work in a poorly run shell of a once great educational company, then apply quickly because they need people after so many quit and I wouldn't give them past the end of the year to be left standing or unsold to recoup losses.
