I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee Owned - Select stock ownership with dividend
Leadership - Engineers and technical professionals who understand the business, are down to earth and accessible
    Competitive pay
Provides opportunities for staff - Career path and talent exchange programs allow for growth and travel between regions, countries and continents.
    Great people

    Cons

Changing metrics (North America) make it hard to track progress toward
Some variation in culture between offices (Phoenix and the West Region are exceptional)
Some offices are transitioning to an open floor plan (no offices)

    Advice to Management

Embrace simple, uniform, financial metrics that can be adapted for different business sectors. Provide US stock, to eliminate foreign tax and exchange rate issues that complicate ownership for US staff.

    Pros

Very well-organized company - makes great use of having specialists in different offices, even in different countries who can be pulled in to help on projects.
Doesn't just talk quality - actually utilizes the quality approaches to deliver better products and services.

    Cons

Flexible work schedule also means you may get calls during non work hours and are expected to reply

I worked at GHD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

PTO is accrued, compensation is fair, and the company allows for each office to have a budget specifically for social events and charitable contributions.

    Cons

Management and employees are resistant to change. I arrived after the merger to GHD and they were and are still stuck in their CRA ways. No one follows the processes and procedures. People like to work around them to avoid required extra approvals. Everyone waits until the last minute, and the grunt of the work is expected of you as it's approaching 5PM on a Friday because they tell you at 4:30PM. They treat their field staff like numbers instead of actual human beings, and don't trust them to do anything. The office is toxic because everyone gossips and talks about everyone. I've never worked in such a tense environment, and don't understand how humans could act like that. Workplace bullying is real, and I've never experienced it before GHD. If you are a hard worker, expect to get everything thrown upon you, and then get yelled at when you can't complete something in their unattainable timelines. There is absolutely no work/life balance as either you're working overtime (which they then will tell you you're not allowed to do) or you're obsessing over dreading going back the next day. As office staff, if you do not work on project-related items, you are scum because your hours are not billable. When the Principals go on their cost-cutting rampage each year, they will try to reduce overhead hours by constantly reminding you how little you mean to the company. I have gone from being a self-motivated person to someone who's scared of doing any little thing because someone has to micromanage me. Turnover is our office was high to the point of concern.

    Advice to Management

Remember that people matter and your employees are your backbone. If there's no communication, then work cannot be effective.

I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits 401k and PTO time pay is good. Everyone in the local office are very nice and everyone seems to get along. Nice new office space.

    Cons

We lost a really great operations manager in the forensic group in September of 2017. They were very experienced in our service line, understood our clients, and participated in business development. They had been with the firm 18+ years which gave the staff a sense of security. Since their departure, this place has become chaotic with the remaining management seeming lost. Corporate recently hired a replacement. They are very nice but do not understand our business. Another example of poor decisions for our leaders.....

    Advice to Management

Have a professional that is familiar with the forensic service line be the operations manager and allow the middle management do what they are good at without upper management delaying the process..

I worked at GHD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    --Great benefits
    --Very safety focused
--Team based atmosphere is encouraged but no one really shares work because the manager is so focused on achieving a very high billability percentage.

    Cons

--Extremely toxic office and manager doesn't mitigate office conflicts effectively
--Expectations on new hires are excessive compared to experience
--Long hours are frequently expected, difficult to balance work/life balance or even keep a medical appointment made in advance.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the office atmosphere and be more open minded. Don't be so focused on a billablity number, it causes unnecessary stress to your employees.

I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

GHD is a great employee owned company. There are limitless opportunities throughout the US and internationally. I have enjoyed working here since 2009. It has grown considerably in the past 5 years and continues to rise up the ENR rankings.
Supportive management (provides the tools you need, guidance for projects)
Experts in every field are easily accessible and happy to help
    Generous vacation time
Highly ethical; they truly value doing the right thing over making money
Environmentally conscious - leader in sustainability
Invest in employees long-term (training, development, and progressively more challenging assignments)
Healthy balance of work and fun - numerous social events / parties scheduled throughout the year

    Cons

There are occasionally difficult engineering challenges due to the large technical nature of the projects, but they're outweighed by the positives.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great people-focused environment, so that we can always bring in the best and brightest talent
