I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good variety of projects. If you want to travel, there are plenty of opportunities.

    Cons

Routinely working from home is not typically an option. The whole business model is based on billable hours and utilization.

I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of smart friendly people. They can also be pretty flexible with schedules.

    Cons

Compensation is really weak. Comes with all the usual cons of working with a consultant: jerk clients, time sheets, billable hours, etc...

    Advice to Management

You sell people and not a product. Treat your people well or you will have nothing to sell.

    Pros

Entry level job no experience needed, company training, growth potential, good management, some travel, friendly coworkers, 401k and health plan

    Cons

Not really to many cons other than lower starting pay but that is to be expected in an entry level job

I worked at GHD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some really great, intelligent people in Project Manager positions.

    Cons

Company doesn't really care about you. Just want to make the most money no matter how negatively it may affect the environment. Some really shady people in Principal and Associate positions.

    Advice to Management

Talking negatively behind your employees' back and rewarding a squeaky wheel doesn't make for a good work environment. If you don't want people to continue to quit then be fair and have a moral compass.

I worked at GHD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When the U.S. offices were part of Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA), the company was a great place to work! I enjoyed working with the local partners for 6 years.

    Cons

GHD banked heavily on CRA's oil/gas sector client revenue base when the two firms merged in 2015. When petroleum prices tanked in 2016, the "merger made in heaven" rapidly morphed into an all-out acquisition by GHD, and everything fell apart. The place is a sweat-shop geared to bleed junior- and mid-level staff dry. I'd never work there again, even if they begged.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff what they are worth, and use billing rates that can support that pay. Short-selling projects by cutting your rates is short-sighted.

I have been working at GHD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Committed to client service and quality.
    2. Competitive pay and benefits.
    3. Family feel in local office.
    4. Privately held company - Employee stock ownership returns good dividends.
    5. Committed to growth and improvement of business.

    Cons

    1. Regular acquisitions has resulted in regular changes in management and processes.
    2. Canadian based management of US business presents challenges.
    3. Although the policy has recently changed, a focus on hours worked set a bad precedent for some.

    Advice to Management

Continue plan to streamline business processes.
Develop technical career paths. People need options other than becoming a principal or associate.
Continue to embrace corporate values of teamwork, respect and integrity.
Scale back burdensome administrative programs (Limit ISO certification and Safety training for staff to whom it provides little value).
