Disgusting behaviour of senior management. They make it seem like they're doing you a favour with bare minimum entitlements. HR does not exist to support staff; it exists to protect bad leadership. Leadership is entirely comfortable hiring senior HR figures with prior, massive legal penalties for unfair dismissal and employee mistreatment. Also, for an organisation that receives so many donations from the public, the actual output and level of assistance provided to clients is shockingly minimal compared to the funding they pull in.
