    Pros

Howden demonstrate to employees that their work is appreciated. They encourage employees to be engaged in problem solving and reward employees as appropriate.

    Cons

There is sometimes a great deal of red tape and bureaucracy to get things done. Streamlining out bureaucracy will eliminate frustration for employees.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your employees. They want to see the company be successful and they have good ideas to help achieve success.

    Pros

Competitive pay. Good vacation package. Management lacks direction so if you are a self starter, you can make your own mark.

    Cons

Horrible management. Can't schedule effectively and leads to unacceptable employee stress and strain. Morale is exceedingly low at our facility.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are squeezed and can only support short term fires while the long term business needs are being ignored. Too many people have been laid off to continue effectively in their roles.

    Pros

    Some middle management is good.
OK benefits, no better or worse than any other large company.
Easy access to highway at Fairlawn location, located near lots of restaurants.
    Nice looking facilities, free coffee.

    Cons

Raises fail to even keep up with inflation; compensation is low when compared to other companies in the region.
More red tape than the govt.
Competent people get worked to the point of burn-out (emails at 9pm-midnight on Saturday and Sunday?).
Complete lack of trust and effective communication makes for a very active and agile grapevine.

    Advice to Management

Make it acceptable to make mistakes and stop trying to govern people by fear.
Empower good people to make decisions and drive action instead of limiting them because it makes someone up above uncomfortable.
Give people the tools and technology they need to do their job well; ERP should be working for the company, not the other way around.

    Pros

Good business colleagues that are focused on growing revenues in down turn.

    Cons

IT is looked upon as cost center and hence focus is on providing limited applications that support business. Business efficiency is impacted due to this approach.

    Advice to Management

Identify how IT can be leveraged to develop solution outcomes aligned with business objectives and products.

I worked at Howden Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the customers and thought we had good products. I liked most of the people I worked with and I had a really good manager. They paid for your health club membership. Another pro is that they're owned by Colfax Corporation.

    Cons

Poor upper management at Howden - too many people in positions they don't belong in. Too many good old boys who protect each other. Poor training and horrible communication.

    Advice to Management

Focus on hiring better talent. Learn how to utilize the KPIs to improve the business, not just improve the numbers so that management across the pond thinks you're doing a great job. Colfax management needs to dig down into the organization and fix some of the problems, they aren't going to get fixed any other way.

    Pros

not much to say here at this time. I loved the people I worked with.

    Cons

current management has a slash and burn mentality. The phrase "Do more with less" would be an understatement.

    Advice to Management

current management likes employees and managers be "yes men". They are not concerned with others opinions.
