Pros
The hours. Depending on what unit you are in, you can get stable hours with weekends and holidays off. However, you can find this in ANY hospital system. It is not unique to Inova.
Cons
More Cons than Pros 1. Onboarding: There are a lot of moving parts and it seems that if an error occurs, then there is a domino effect as a result. In my case, information was entered wrong which impacted compliance training and my ability to perform my job. Not much accountability, everyone blamed the other systems for the errors. 2. Job Expectations: Inova is a large organization. A new hire should be made aware if they will work at more than one location. Additionally, all expectations and job descriptions should be fully disclosed to the candidate. This will allow the candidate to make a fully informed decision and negotiate their terms before accepting Inova's offer. 3. Management: Emotional Intelligence and humility will go a long way…I strongly advise that management take leadership coaching. 4. Pay: Inova should pay significantly under the market rate. Sign-on bonuses do not make up for the lack of base pay. Candidates should negotiate for better terms.

Pros
Tons of job opportunities Great for learning new skills & working with new technology
Cons
A degree or ridiculous amount of job experience is required for every position including entry level. Patient care suffers because of the technology used to communicate & conduct appointments with providers Resulting in very angry patients who are neglected. Leadership's lazy, disconnected & doesn't lead by example. Managers and supervisors request volunteers to learn new skills to fill in the gaps but will not offer any advancement in position or pay. The overall culture is very immature, unprofessional and clicky. This is not the company to work for if you're looking for stability but if you want to learn new skills and training to add to your resume this is the place to use as a stepping stone.

Pros
Great training and place to start as a new nurse. Had a long orientation and felt confident in my skills. The coworkers are amazing which is really what kept me for so long.
Cons
In comparison to other states, VA pay is pretty terrible. Also the 3 call out rule has made me more mad than I would ever like to admit. But 3 call outs in one year (including if you have to go out on disability) results in getting written up.

Inova is dedicated to career growth and employee happiness
Apr 6, 2023 - Registered Nurse in Alexandria, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Phenomenal support for growth in career, lighthouse recruiters with talent acquisition who team with Kristina Burczak are the best. My latest position was granted with her continuous assistance with interviews for jobs that were a great fit for my goals. She went over and beyond what I ever experienced in the past in my job search by constantly checking in and following up with the appropriate managers, even texting the morning of wishing me good luck on the interview with immediate same day follow up . She made it her duty to do all in her scope resulting in me landing the job , but overall I felt valued as a nurse and individual. I am grateful for her knowing that I could not have done this without her support and my Inova family. If all companies had someone like her and her team by their side, employees will be so much happier with their work life balance and committed long term to their mission!
Cons
Nothing , if you are diligent you will be successful and Inova will make sure of it!!! Join the family at Inova Health System!

Be very careful who you trust
May 17, 2023 - Registered Nurse, BSN in Falls Church, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fairfax is a gorgeous hospital with a lot of really good staff. It really is world class healthcare and I would take my family there over any other hospital, anywhere. Most of the clinical and support staff are fabulous and work well together. The benefits are decent, the scholarship and tuition assistance is great, and the PTO and holidays are fair (if you can actually use your PTO).
Cons
Although the nursing staff and the experience (if I were to be a patient) would be very positive, actually working there and seeing what happens behind the scenes is a whole other story. The middle management is truly toxic and really do promote cliques or "popular people" who are usually toxic, themselves. There is no support for "unpopular" staff who are feeling targeted and the poisonous venom seems to infiltrate behind the scenes and up the chain. HR does not work for you, they work with the middle managers like mean school kids bullying someone on the bus. Any promises or guarantees of confidentiality are absolutely not true. Any internal complaints are laughed at or dismissed. When there is that environment, it is very difficult to trust anything, or anyone. I worked there a long time and things did change dramatically when Steve Narang came. I truly hope he doesn't know or tolerate the behavior of his juvenile middle managers or HR. They are a disgrace.

Pros
Benefits, helping patients, food trucks, incentives, compassion fund program
Cons
The absolute worst company/organization to work for. They say they are inclusive. They are inclusive to everyone, except for caucasians. They are inclusive to all kinds of different ra©️es, but if you are white, you will not be happy. They will not protect you or give you the benefit of the doubt. If you are African American, you have the best chance here. The hours are long, they expect too much, they shove so many appointments and patients in the facilities, yet they lack the staff to support. They do not care about your ideas or your suggestions. They are incompetent and like to hire people for the sake of inclusivity numbers. You can be an incompetent, rude and an ignorant employee, but as long as you are considered a protected class or a class of "inclusive" numbers, example LGBTQ+, then it is okay. They do not train employees correctly. They will cram a week or two of everything under the kitchen sink that has to do with the facility with the virtual, but your actual job will only be about a half day of that training and/or no in-person training at all. Policies and procedures are not met on basic levels. There was once a weapon allowed from a patient by management because the patient was not being harmful with it, they were allowed to keep it. The management definitely has their favorites who they will treat like kings and queens, but the other few are discarded like rubbish. The ethics, professionalism and codes of conduct are thrown out the window every day with how staff treats other staff. Clinical to administrative, clinical to clinical and administrative to administrative. They protect what makes them popular and gives them numbers, volume and money. The bottom line is their main focus, despite what they convey to the public about patient care. Again, the incompetence level is so high, that it is shocking. The CEO, upper management and doctors have absolutely no idea how these specific locations are ran. It's an absolute Sh- show from top to bottom. The lack of management support for every day tasks and overall set up for success is severely lacking due to their laziness, due to the incompetent and below subpar levels of employees that are hired as well as the lack of true vision of the needs of the departments. It's alarming. I have seen a lot of different organizations, and this one isn't the worst of all, but it sure as heck doesn't internally match the external hype or numbers they project. Basics are important as well. Example of one is simply the term "Inova." It is supposed to be pronounced "INN-OH-VUH" Yet 99% of employees still pronounce it "EYE-NOVA" after they were taught the correct way. 90% of the departments I have ever called and heard answer the phone "EYE-NOVA." 97% of all answering machine messages across all locations and departments within those locations pronounce the organization "EYE-NOVA." Although this is not the end of the world, if an organization cannot even get their own name correct or care enough to say it correctly, which is a very basic part of the job, what else are we not caring about? Focus should be on patients, not the name, you say....but it starts with the little things that we do, because if those are important than the big things will also be important. The management do not care about providing a safe environment for others unless you are a person of color, whichever color that may be. It is a very reverse ra©️ist organization and it bleeds discrimination, favoritism, and harassment within its walls. People are belittled, spoken down to and treated with disrespect, DESPITE those lame online training courses on health stream. There are so many things they need to correct that the list could go on for days, but these are just some basics that can be said about this organization. Inclusiveness is preached all the time, but the reality is that it is not for all. I hope they change and very quickly. There is a lot to be desired in management re-training as well as team member training. Do better. Please.
