    Advice to Management

The starting rate for Techs is under $15... I believe $15 is a fair starting point for the amount of work we are supposed to be getting done in a shift. The job is great, active, and goes by quick because there is so much to get done. The unit I work in is heavy, stressful on mind/body, and there isn't enough resources for extra help. It is difficult to get everything done in a day.. vitals/bathing/ambulation/oral care/Is&Os because we are constantly being called into patients rooms. The nurses and Techs are always running around answering call lights that it can be difficult to finish the ADL's. Most of the nurses are amazing and helpful but there are a few that can add stress onto your day... as in they won't help you with a single thing so they can chat in the break room for 2 hours to other employees. Management focuses on communication and I feel like most of the nurses think they are specifically talking to the techs but it is definitely both ways. Communication is lost most of the time during my shift even though most of the nurses are extremely helpful.

I have been working at Inova full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Multiple locations offer variety to be employed at.

    Cons

Has been a Truly disheartening culture and experience for me. The men get promoted with less experience over and over. It is a good old boy network and leadership has undeniable disrespect for the nursing profession. People in high places that have no reason to be there.

    Advice to Management

Our new leader is cleaning the house up and i pray he keeps digging to the next level.
Clinicians should be at all tables making final decision, it is what's right.

I have been working at Inova full-time

    Pros

It's a great place to work and everyone is nice and friendly.

    Cons

As a clinical technician the pay could be a little better because we do so much.

    Advice to Management

To keep retention rate down I would look at the budget to see how the increase would effect as a whole. Giving a little more to clinical technicians for their time and dedication to the organization can help keep the retention rate down.
