    Pros

Leading edge night vision technology. Pride and purpose in work. A few great people to work with. A small and slow change being made for the better.

    Cons

Low pay. Engineering department has only a few people who really go out of their way to help others.

"A good place to work, but a poor place to develop"

I worked at Intevac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Engineers are expected to prove ideas out with thoughtful analysis and data. Your ideas will be tested, and you will need to vigorously defend them. It helped me to reduce my ideas to only the practical ones with helpful team input. I worked with friends. Many people at Intevac are a pleasure to work with and feel like family. HR and some co-workers go out of their way to make sure that employees feel like they belong to the Intevac family. Flexible work schedule. Chefs from Thyme to Relax at the local Intevac Cafe provide on-site food (you buy) that is usually good and healthy. There is a relaxation room with massage chairs, a nature-inspired theme, and a room-scale VR playroom. An amazing idea from an equally amazing HR department. It really helps to decompress.

    Cons

Risk-aversion prevents the team from moving forward with innovative ideas. The research was completed, but management was rarely willing to commit to the (reasonable) development required to implement it. Appreciation is lacking. I rarely got credit for hard work. Your superiors will use you for grunt work, and their actions show they do not care about your career development. High turnover in bursts. Only managers seem to stay long term. There are some extremely toxic employees that are tolerated. No raises after several years of hard work of significance at the company. And no, keeping up with inflation is not a raise. Despite having a timecard, it's easy to find yourself working overtime. This overwork is not discouraged by managers. In fact, if you don't put in the time, you won't be able to lead projects.

I worked at Intevac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I got to know a few good people.

    Cons

There is bullying going on that is on the threshold of becoming a hostile work environment. My manager is a micromanager who withholds information, makes invalid and baseless criticism and undermines me in front of fellow employees to cover up her own insecurities and understanding of what is going on around her. She makes inappropriate and unprofessional comments about employees that if heard would allow employees to sue on the base of discrimination. There is no work life balance. When I brought this up to her she said I was unmotivated. The overall environment is toxic. Do not waist your time applying. They are outdated and going down hill. Management is aware of this type of of behavior and turns a blind eye.

I worked at Intevac full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get a paycheck. And that's about it.

    Cons

Where do I start. In short, Extremely unprofessional, unethical and unqualified people from director level down to employees - especially their so called software group. If you see a job opening remember they just want to ride you, take credit for your work (because they are unqualified), and find someone to blame for their chaos, poor planning, poor management, missed deadlines and lack of knowledge.

I worked at Intevac full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Standard Benefits. Very common to what you see in most companies. 401K match started again. Friendly team members. Accommodating.

    Cons

It is a survivor. I don't see great growth in future years. I can see it doing about the same, plus or minus 15 percent over the next set of years.
