  1. "meh, dont bother"

I worked at Jean Machine part-time

    Pros

Good sales experience for those who haven't been in retail before

    Cons

Very heavily weighed on the 4 Steps of Selling they teach you and maintaining ridiculously high budgets for overpriced and often, cheap merchandise. Many customers had complained about the sales people being too pushy and pushing them to buy products they didn't want, but felt like they needed to because the employee would not stop pushing it. Employees also have to buy and wear current clothes, which are pretty... expensive, even at 50% off. Part-time employees are required to shell out the same amount of money as FT employees, to pay for outfits every few weeks to keep up with current merchandise. And you have to wear what is being sol in store, not even the items that appear only online.

    Advice to Management

Reassess your company values. Yes, you want your employees to have connections with customers and clients, but forcing and pushing products into their faces will not result in life-long clientele. It will result in returns and frustrated people who will spread the word about how annoying and relentless the employees are. Maybe focus more on making the shoppers experience more about having fun and less about adding... that UPT.

I worked at Jean Machine part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I was hired as a key holder, I only worked there 2 weeks as I was offered another position elsewhere. There didn’t seem to be many benefits to working there except some creative freedom to visual merchandise as they had no real guidance from head office. Good focus on denim training and the how different styles work for different body shapes.

    Cons

Company overall seemed disorganised. My store was sharing a store manager with another store. The assistant manager seemed unmotivated and had low morale. Very minimal training given in the operations side of things. No health and safety training given. They don’t really seem to have a cohesive visual plan. There were lots of different brands that didn’t necessarily tell a story on the shopfloor and felt like a mish... mash. Lots of pressure to convert customers but the clothing didn’t quite stand out.

I have been working at Jean Machine part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - management tends to be kind and friendly. - coworkers tend to also be friendly - the $$ isn’t the most important aspect of ever sale. Often encouraging interactions over robotic sales. - management tends to be understanding with circumstances. - management does try to be helpful in you meeting your budget and improving your skills. - great discount - the systems do a good job of avoiding a need to protect... sales -group sales are encouraged and will improve everyone’s stats - get a discount at bootleggers, and two other stores -

    Cons

    - have a budget and goals etc. but no commission. No real incentive other than hours to sell more than minimum. - hours are super unpredictable if you don’t consistently have decent sales. Definitely have a second job if you have a store that’s not very busy on the regular. - can’t work in any other clothing store if you work here (I know this isn’t abnormal but I consider it a con) - have to wear clothes from... the store. - the return policy can ruin future weeks if someone brings something back. there are no rewards for exceptional work. Bonuses, raises etc. Are nigh non existent.

    Advice to Management

I know you have head office on your case but giving people the amount of hours promised is a good idea. Push to add positive incentives to better sales and don’t punish employees as much. Putting hours at risk causes stressed employees which causes worse selling

I worked at Jean Machine full-time

    Pros

    - Trusted by managers - Managed the sales associates on duty - Often had choice of shifts - Was allowed to offer discounts in order to help maximize sales

    Cons

    - Commission was not as high of a payoff as management was leading it on to be - Constant change of management

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that there be more consistency between management

I have been working at Jean Machine part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Discounts on name brand clothing. Great coworker atmosphere. Depending on the store, group outings and birthday celebrations. Good updates music to work to.

    Cons

Having DMs speak to you rudely or yell at you about sales quotas every 5 minutes via email chat, phone calls, video surveillance or spontaneous dropbys

    Advice to Management

Office positive feedback instead of creating hostile situations. If you're are going to schedule a PT sales associate with FT schedules from the start. Give them the correct contract.
