I have been working at LGC full-time

    Pros

Very tight knit. Plenty of employee engagement. People are very friendly and understanding. Benefits are decent. Great place to work.

    Cons

There has been a little international communication issue, but not anything too serious. There's not really anything else to complain about.

    Pros

Management appreciates and welcomes suggestions for process improvement. US customer support team is simply fantastic. Product line is good.

    Cons

Hard to make commission money in sales. Low application support. Delayed training for new products. Very large territories to support. Unequal distribution of accounts. Too many hands doing the same job, often with lots of errors. Lack of communication and equality between international LGC sites.

    Advice to Management

'One LGC' should not just be a cute term. Don't play favorites. Brings morale down.

I worked at LGC (More than a year)

    Pros

honestly unless the treatment of techs improve, I do not see any pros.

    Cons

They do not invest in the lower level employees only the managers. They treat the lower level employees like minions who do not matter.

    Advice to Management

Treat technicians with respect like they are a part of the team, and invest in their training and growth.

I have been working at LGC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great bosses, very caring company, I received support from multiple colleagues at all levels including the MD of the division. A good place to work.

    Cons

There are a lot of higher management attempting to score political points. This sometimes gets in the way of doing what is best for the company.

I worked at LGC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None that I can think of - the people you work with but that isn't due to the company.

    Cons

High turnaround of staff (in 3 years there, I've seen 59 people leave from just my lab)

Poor management- progression depends on social relationships- bad workers who go for drinks with managers progress over competent workers.

Poor pay- less than 6k than other companies

Weekend work- expect this and longer hours with less shift allowance

Poor quality of work- if you have just graduated and are expecting to carry out forensic work to a high standard - think again. When mistakes are made (which include huge forensic blunders that affect peoples lives) it is brushed under the carpet, hidden from clients and 'investigated by LGC' meaning a meeting and keeping client in dark.

Senior management agree to work contracts that are unattainable so targets are high and EVERYONE ends up working at least 2hrs over their shift (with no overtime pay - it logs as flexi).

Generally poor work environment, standards of work. Would only recommend to get your foot in the door and leave after 1 year for better job - wish I'd done that.

    Advice to Management

No point in leaving advice because they'll never change.

I have been working at LGC full-time

    Pros

Great place to learn and train. Staff empowered to make decisions. Ability to plan and manage your own time and workload. Flexible and friendly.

    Cons

Hard work and long hours are sometimes needed to manage the workload required.

    Advice to Management

Keep developing the people and facilities which you have and look for ways to better use staff and help them to develop.

I worked at LGC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees gain some skills across various areas.

    Cons

Take advantage of graduates who wish for a career in forensics.
Completely underpay and over work staff. Do not take work life balance into consideration at all. Managers will push and do not care what time staff stay until (past midnight) to get work done.
You can only climb the career ladder by being the managers best friend.
H&S is a serious worry. They make you work with new chemicals without any of the appropriate H&S materials.
Make a lot of promises about training/progression. Only to be let down.
Make a big fuss about team socials but they are forever cancelled because you can not keep up with the amount of work. Too many people leaving compared to the amount coming in.
Make it seem like paradise when you join, only to be let down.

    Advice to Management

    Take employees seriously.
Don't take advantage of employees who wish to progress up the career ladder.
Pay your employees what they're worth.
Employees will do more than expected if you treat them fairly.
