I worked at LGC (More than a year)

    Pros

honestly unless the treatment of techs improve, I do not see any pros.

    Cons

They do not invest in the lower level employees only the managers. They treat the lower level employees like minions who do not matter.

    Advice to Management

Treat technicians with respect like they are a part of the team, and invest in their training and growth.

    Pros

Very tight knit. Plenty of employee engagement. People are very friendly and understanding. Benefits are decent. Great place to work.

    Cons

There has been a little international communication issue, but not anything too serious. There's not really anything else to complain about.

    Pros

Management appreciates and welcomes suggestions for process improvement. US customer support team is simply fantastic. Product line is good.

    Cons

Hard to make commission money in sales. Low application support. Delayed training for new products. Very large territories to support. Unequal distribution of accounts. Too many hands doing the same job, often with lots of errors. Lack of communication and equality between international LGC sites.

    Advice to Management

'One LGC' should not just be a cute term. Don't play favorites. Brings morale down.

I have been working at LGC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Are there are any? Company kept solvent by eager, idealistic graduates who overlook the meager minimum wages to try and make a genuine difference. Though, unfortunately, motivation doesn't last long at this company.

    Cons

    Where do I start?????
    1. Fundamental flaws in H&S policy throughout the company. H&S is happily overlooked in an effort to cut corners and reduce employee number. Catastrophic failings in H&S policy on a daily basis.
    2. Incompetent management who honestly do not have a clue what they are doing. Junior, inexperienced, staff elevated to management positions to help cut remuneration.
    3. Pay is just above the minimum wage. 68% of staff do not earn a living wage. Unless you have a second job you will not survive.
    4. Staff turnover extraordinarily high. Morale and motivation lasts 6-12 months before staff leave. Very few exerienced staff left at the company.
    5. Quality of the work is appaling. Corners cut on a regular basis. 10's of 100's miscarriages of justices owing to flawed protocols and high levels of contamination. A defence lawyer would have a field day.
    6. Having worked at the FSS, this company is a complete joke in comparison. Would not be surprised to see the company shut down in the next year.

    Advice to Management

First, employ some proper managers on a proper wage. To say that mid-level management is incompetent is to be diplomatic. I have come across more competent and professional management at McDonald's.
You have to address catastrophic H&S failings. Somebody is going to get seriously hurt unless you do so. Highly unsurprising that there was a huge explosion at the LGC German site. Please, urgently carry out a fundamental review of H&S policy.
You need to address the failings in the quality of the work. Contamination is rife and management don't care. We all feel as though we are hitting our heads against a wall as our managers don't listen to us.
The company is a joke, and serious efforts need to be made urgently to address the plethora of failings.

I have been working at LGC full-time

    Pros

Few people trying to keep this company up and going
    Industrial experience for graduates
    Growing business

    Cons

Poor pay (salary range is below market rates especially when a Masters degree doesn't count)
Many young and less experience people work there in order to get the work done without any recognition
    Long working hours
    Bad Location (no transportation)
    No bonuses
No restaurant for a site of this size (>400)

    Advice to Management

Consider focusing on the most important thing: keeping the staff in the company. Recognise their hard work. Consider changing the salary ranges for all bands.

I worked at LGC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Surprisingly, there are still a few good members of staff who really try and want the business to succeed.

    Cons

Generally, just poor throughout. Turnover of staff is exceptionally high, especially of those with several years experience, so the deep knowledge in business is dwindling. This is probably the biggest factor in the declining quality of the work being performed. Also, replacing these knowledgable staff with inexperienced staff (sometimes new employees are experienced, but in a completely different field) is not going to improve the business, but rather accelerate the downward spiral even more.
It all started going downhill once LGC acquired KBioscience and thought that they knew how to run the business better. I've not heard one member of staff who thought that the business had changed for the better and 6 years later, staff continue to talk about the "good old days".
Ignore posts on here which are clearly from new management and state crazy comments about only issues are being able to focus on a few of the amazing ideas the company has. There have been no real new products in the last 6 years. The innovative part of the business has been quashed and the great R&D staff that did have innovate ideas were not listened to so have all left the company. Somone should tell management that tweaking of existence products is not innovative R&D!!!
The same is now happening to Biosearch that happened to KBioscience (disgruntled staff, knowledge leaving the business and declining quality). Changes need to happen quickly to stop the rot in another part of the business.

    Advice to Management

Make your customers and staff your number one priority and not profit. Yes, LGC is owned by private equity and has to make money, but by focussing on what customers what and having knowledgable staff provide it well, you'll make a hell of a lot more money than the way it's being done now.

    Pros

One if the leading forensic providers in the country with an increase in vacancies for graduates.

    Cons

Hunger for business outweighs care and respect for its employees.

    Advice to Management

A business is there to make money but you are taking it way too far, leaving your employees miserable and neglected. You need to focus on your staff before they are appreciated elsewhere.
