Pros

Think of LSS as great on the job training for another career in healthcare IT. If you're fresh out of college or looking for something new, this is the place to start. They'll hire with just about any degree, and in some cases if you have no degree. Put in your one or two years and you'll be able to apply to hospitals around the country and easily get a job paying double the salary. The people are great to work with. Everyone is going through the same thing you are, so you form a bond even outside of work.

Cons

Don't plan on anything close to a lavish lifestyle. You'll start making in the upper 30's to lower 40's for a salary. Because of the amount of work you are expected to do, you can never catch up on work. Clients become irritated because of this and they take it out on you. Although there may not be an alternative, the business model of LSS and MEDITECH is to find as many new employees as they can, pay them a low salary, and watch them walk out the door a couple years later. They lose a great amount of knowledge this way. Although since hospitals can afford to pay more money, there is no point in LSS paying a little extra. Everyone will leave anyway.

Pros

LSS (now MEDITECH) is very selective when it comes to hiring. Therefore, you end up with a great group of co-workers who are very smart and hard working. The only other thing that MEDITECH has going for it is benefits. You will be hard pressed to find better benefits in today's economy.

Cons

While MEDITECH has a lot of potential, I don't see the company advancing itself much in the field because of 2 major issues. 1) Low pay, which in turn causes 2) High turn over rates. MEDITECH markets it's self as a value EHR, which in some respect is awesome. I like the idea that I am working for a company that is not contributing to the rising healthcare costs. On the other hand, because MEDITECH is a value EHR company, employee's are paid a "Value" salary.

Pros

- Good benefits - Decent work/life balance.

Cons

- Low starting pay is made worse by low raises. - Poor, clueless management - High turnover - Bad, clunky internal systems - Obsolete proprietary language - Opportunities seem to go to random people, and not based off of merit.
