Very rich experience for new counselor but unrealistic work demands
May 10, 2023 - Staff Therapist/Mental Health Counselor in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This job gives a counselor a very wide variety of experiences with different cases and you're guaranteed to be seeing clients and having sessions all day.
Cons
You'll never actually be able to have a vacation or a day off because the work you left behind, all your patients and their sessions will still need to be done by you when you get back. You'll have double the work before and after any time off and no appropriate time to do it because even a normal day of work is an enormous amount of tasks. You'll have so much to do (seeing patients and all the paperwork) that you'll likely forget to go to the restroom during the day. It's easy as a full time staff to work way way more hours than you're paid for so I recommend being a PRN.

You cannot trust upper management
Mar 24, 2023 - Admissions CoordinatorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you want to see a variety of patients and the reality of mental health is it a good place to work. There are a few coworkers who are amazing to work with.
Cons
Upper management rarely take accountability for their incompetence. They will find a way to blame support staff for their oversight. If you get injured on the job don’t expect even your own supervisors to care or check in on you. Going above them does not help either. The corporate culture here is reactive and not proactive. If you try to go to your supervisor they will not work with you to find a solution and will keep dangerous incidents from their higher ups. You need to make sure you document everything and save texts/communication. They don’t care for the well-being of support staff. This critique is not just limited to one department. All staff will tell you similar incidents.

Pros
I am in a master’s program for counseling, so this is one of the only ways to get hands on experience without a master’s. I have learned so much from working here. If you have the desire to help people, there is a chance to do that here. I also work the 7-3 shift, so I like that it’s not the typical 9-5 hours and I still have time left in my day after work. There are constant opportunities to pick up extra shifts and work overtime.
Cons
The pay for this position is not very good. I work full time and have a unit I am contracted for, but I still can always get moved to different units. It’s very fast-paced and usually involves a lot of multitasking. You are working with patients, so that can sometimes be unpleasant.

Learning experiences are genuine
Jan 7, 2023 - Licensed Professional Counselor in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Provides and offers continuous training in evidenced-based therapy modalities. PTO is accrued pretty quickly. Very understanding and flexible with schedule when unexpected situations happen. Promote team building, cohesiveness, culture building, and provide opportunities to learn therapy approaches and processes to improve skills as a professional. The program curriculum is improving. Group sessions and individual sessions for patients are wonderful and are designed to help the patient work towards desired outcomes. The learning experiences with different diagnosis as well as implementing varies counseling modalities is one of the best experiences, particularly when patients are able to collaborate with the therapist in creating a personalized treatment plan.
Cons
Lacking in the area of employee accountability and ownership. Difficult to provide quality work due to high caseload. The work-life balance has room for improvement. Unrealistic expectations regarding time-management and work productivity. Annually pay raises are below average, no annually bonus, minimal pay, minimal growth potential, and minimal recognition for higher learning or professional accomplishments, unless you have a close relationship with supervisor. High turn-over rate and tend to hire younger therapists (age 23 - 27) with minimal contribution, dedication, or motivation for the professional positions. Management could improve in accountability and follow-through. Pay is not enough and will be expected to work over expected hours if base pay is salary. Moving upward is difficult and if you change positions within the company, the pay increase is below average, even with higher education. Human resources could improve on recognizing employees for their education, training and take more time getting to know their employees and their goals for the company and gain the interest of more qualified applicants and place them in roles according to education, skills, and training. Marketing could improve, particularly with their evening virtual intense outpatient program, to reach more individuals.

The Patients were incredible
Aug 14, 2022 - Claims RepresentativeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The Patients. Obviously there were some that were hard to deal with. But, I met some of the most amazing people. Coworkers were also so great. It honestly not a hard job at all. There is always overtime, so if you need some extra cash, you can always work.
Cons
It takes a certain amount of patience and love to work here, so if you don't have that, please don't work here. The patients deserve compassion, and I saw way too many people without it. Also, there were many times that patients were discharged before they should have been. Just because they wanted more space for new patients. The company was always only concerned about $$$. I get that that is important, but it seemed like they cared more about money than the patients, which is so wrong. They will also work you to death if you let them. The call and text on your day off after working 50+ hours asking you to come in.
