Now a big company

Pros

While still a startup, Level was bought by ASSA Abloy and now has the benefit of big-company stability. Yet to be seen how much corporate process will sneak in in the future.

Cons

No more chance to "get bought for big bucks" startup mode hope, but no more worry that runway ends in N months

Pros

Opportunity to own and architect core IoT and backend platform systems with real impact. Collaborative environment with talented engineers solving complex distributed systems challenges. Exposure to cutting-edge technologies (FastAPI, Kafka, AWS, Redis, IoT integrations). Startup agility with room to innovate and influence product direction. Strong mission of building smart home products used at scale.

Cons

Rapid changes in company direction can create uncertainty for long-term projects. Limited resources compared to big tech, so engineers often wear many hats. Communication between leadership and engineering can sometimes lack clarity. Career progression and job levels are not always clearly defined.
