I have been working at MRV Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people here are great. The products are amazing and exciting to learn. Not the usual stress you get from other manufacturers. They pick the right people. The people are mellow, laid back but hard working and very intelligent. Many have been here a long time and it is a seasoned team of professionals, older and wiser. Politics is virtually absent.

    Cons

We haven't been profitable in several years, despite the great product line. We got purchased by ADVA Optical and changes are happening quickly. It is clear ADVA wants the product line and intellectual property. Employees are being cut really fast. Everyday there are more good-bye emails. Good people are disappearing. Some of us don't know how long we have or IF we'll stay. The separation packages are generous. That's good, because some have been here 10-20 years, are older and the job market is going to be a shock.

    Advice to Management

Sorry it had to come to this. Nothing against former CEO Mark Bonney or new CEO Brian Protiva. That's the nature of the business. Good luck Brian, I hope you make it go right.

I have been working at MRV Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really there is nothing to be gained at MRV. Real incentive . Waste of two years. The worst day was the day I started, the best day is the Day I left. Just like a sunken boat.

    Cons

7 US Holidays. Product issues at customers( Outages) plagues the Sales, services and engineering. Entire company , systems, etc is broken and each org operates in silos without any cohesiveness synergy with no executive controls or leadership. During times of Israeli holidays customers and even Support org cannot obtain engineering support for 4-6 weeks . I absolutely would not base or allow for my networking applications to ride on MRV products.

    Advice to Management

Company is a good model/study on how "Not" to build or operate a company. Every single process in every single organization is broken and nobody is accountable for fixing a thing even at each executive level.

I worked at MRV Communications full-time

    Pros

    good people are at mrv

    Cons

Too much damage was done to employees. Their spirit was crushed. MRV should close shop and reopen under a different name, and give employees a lot of stock options to motivate them.

    Advice to Management

increasing quality doesn't need to be expensive - cost of good quality assurance is no excuse
