THE place to be for online dating; toxic culture
May 22, 2023 - Senior UX ResearcherRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Get to work with other household brands in online dating, MG being nearly a monopoly in the industry - Research is respected and valued in product development - Autonomy to pursue your own projects
Cons
- The research function is under design leadership who knows very little about research - Middle management is extremely toxic and loves to gossip and criticize other colleagues behind their back - Middle management does not know how to support career growth or host effective 1:1s - Unclear career growth trajectory - Promotions are based on how buddy-buddy you can get with your manager - Poor outlook ahead for the longevity of the brand

Pros
-Good benefits + HR -Ability to move around to other roles in the company

Senior management is all white people who work on apps that cater to BIPOC demographic and have no clue about the culture -Poor management and training (people lack emotional intelligence) -People barely get promoted + pay discrepancies -Low compensation for how much work you do -Senior management has extremely outdated practices + doesn't work to improve them -Very hard to take time off without making the rest of the days you work hard

In recent years, the company has really made an effort to address their shortcomings, including: - Competitive salary - Good parental leave policy - for all parents - Focus on employee mental well-being - In-office events and perks
