Pros

Great place to start out and learn for engineers interested in the medical device industry. Consulting opportunities with some cool companies. Direct mentorship from management. Nice culture of collaboration. Reasonable compensation, especially when starting out.

Cons

No boundaries. Female employees are engaged in inappropriate conversations regarding family plans in the context of their advancement in the company. Microagressions - making fun of clients accents, assumptions made about employees based on race, referring to people of color as immigrants even when they are not, etc. Small company means lack of infrastructure for a proper HR department or robust benefits. Poor work life balance. Hours, workload, and expectation for availability are unreasonable and unsustainable. Micromanagement and lack of trust in employees. Expect multiple daily checkins from management and several weekly meetings to discuss project progress. Oh, and these don't count as billable time, so you're expected to work 40 hours on top of that. Poor employee retention due to all this. Most don't last more than a year or two and go on to better things.

Just don't

Pros

You get to pay your bills because they give you a paycheck. CEO is big on celebrating birthdays and will buy a cake and candles for every employee's birthday so the team will celebrate together, which is nice, but this does not make up for the problems at the company. If you're seeking mentorship, the VP of Quality is the right person to approach. The others cannot provide this even if they would like to think they do.

Cons

The company's hiring strategy is to hire students fresh out of college with no real full-time working experience so they don't know what to expect in terms of reasonable work hours or appropriate compensation. They will absolutely take full advantage. No onboarding or training to speak of - figure it out yourself. They took little to no precautionary measures during the Coronavirus pandemic and even created marketing videos with many unmasked people all sitting together around a tight conference table. There is no growth opportunity and management's eccentricities are sometimes too much to handle. Have seen them explicitly discriminate against minority employees.

Pros

If you have no other prospects and need a paycheck, at least you’ll get some job experience.

Cons

So many cons. There is a reason the turnover rate is so high; it is a toxic workplace that relies on hiring young college grads and working them to the bone. The compensation is below market rate and you will be working terrible hours with little balance. On PTO, sick, or enjoying your weekend? Expect to be bombarded with emails and texts and guilted into responding. You will also be heavily micromanaged (seriously, you will be expected to account for every moment of the day and have multiple daily meetings wasting time just to prove that you were working). Management is intrusive and bad at allocating resources. They will either pull you aside to check every bit of your work or gossip to you about other employees. It’s uncomfortable either way. The employees are beyond stressed and the compensation and benefits are so poor that it’s really not worth it. Unless there are some major changes in both the business structure (fixed rate consulting hours for all personnel puts a clear cap on salary and growth) or management approaches, I’d recommend prospective hires steer clear.
