I worked at NHS Management full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Job was very close to home, on my block actually . knew some of the staff from my step mother staying there several times.

    Cons

My step mother was diagnosed terminal liver cancer. I was told take the time you need to care for her. Then received a voice mail telling me sorry things did not work out. After 18 days of employment, they let me go.

    Advice to Management

Let a good dedicated caring person have a chance, and do not throw a person out for caring and being a primary care giver for a close immediate family member..

I have been working at NHS Management (More than 5 years)

    Pros

NHS is a well regarded, successful organization in the Long Term Care Business. It is family owned and operated and growing at a rate of approximately 5 to 6 % per year in size and revenue. The goals of the organization are admirable and the loyalty to long term employees is second to none.

    Cons

NHS is slow to recognize the rapidity of change in the LTC industry; more effort is spent on politically trying to hold back the tide of change than adapting to it. Dedication to long term staff without regard to performance or ability handicaps their ability to adapt quickly enough. All of the capacity, relationships and capabilities are there including the technology infrastructure to allow true rapid transformation in the face of capitation, but staff are to busy doing day to day work rather than transformative work.

    Advice to Management

Review the attitude toward transformation and the use of information technology in leveraging change, transformation and ultimately competitive advantage. Change the environment from one where really only tenure and longevity matter to one where tenure and performance allow advancement within the organization. Seek out staff who understand the coming impacts of capitation and insert them into the business planning and operations process. Build the kind of efficiency and level of care that will be required to succeed in the world coming two or three years from now today -- be a leader.

    Pros

Older senior management treated me well/fair.

    Cons

Newer management lacks style/tack/exp. Doesn't know who really performs

    Advice to Management

Understand who is working/not working -need to recognize loyal staff.
