I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Creative atmosphere with great work life balance.

    Cons

Lots of unnecessary middle management although with recent layoffs most of these positions were terminated.

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Viacom as a company does a lot to keep their employees engaged
-I really liked the people I work with
    -Working on fun, exciting content

    Cons

    -Limited opportunities for growth
-Often doing a lot more than job title suggests
-Some people who have worked at Nickelodeon for years and took a lot of time to move up don't promote those underneath them since that was their personal experience
-Largely full of amazing, funny inspiring people but definitely a few unmotivated, not-so-nice folks who have stuck around for a while and slowly worked their way up

    Advice to Management

Recognize the talent you have. If you don't everyone will start leaving and go to other networks where they'll get better titles, better money and better opportunities...

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well known brand, and evergreen demographic that will always want more content.

    Cons

NY execs fearful of making contents that the6 don’t understand. Choosing inexpensive coproductions over the bread and butter of half hour comedy that has been the provider of orange carpet talent for the ad sales party, I mean Kids Choice awards.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting the ego of NY execs who feel threatened by the talent in Los Angeles dictate personnel matters. What happened to the whole development team that delivered success SKL?

    Pros

    Great Work/Life balance
    Great benefits & perks
    Positive work environment

    Cons

Extremely hard to move up or get promoted especially now with all of the financial issues the company is having.

    Advice to Management

Listen to lower level employees so that we can all help to get this company back on track.

I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture, the building, and the art

    Cons

The executives won’t green light shows and moral is very low. It feel like often times the employees interest are not represented

    Advice to Management

Be bold, work with Netflix, start green lighting and airing content. SpongeBob and Loud House are only going to last so long. Moral is low

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In general the people are a pleasure to work with and Is a great place for working parents / work life balance. Benefits are good. Highly visible brand.

    Cons

Pay can be better and more competitive.

Their TV-first / linear thinking business strategy is antiquated and has not served them well.

Parent company Viacom is currently struggling to compete with companies that have way better merger deals and business associates.. this seems to be passed down to Nickelodeon in the form of waves of budget cuts, and more often managers are forced to hire people as freelance instead of full-time. Morale is slipping due to layoffs and cuts. Hopefully it can turn around and be what it once was.
