I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Good benefits. Good job security.

    Cons

Have to fight hard for promotions. Work is done in silos. Employees aren't given much professional freedom. Not much transparency.

    Cons

Not easy to move up in the company if there are no openings.

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

9-5, relaxed company culture, very nice people

    Cons

Not good pay, not a hard working environment (when 5 strikes everyone is gone), company as a whole on a negative trend w/o great properties

    Advice to Management

Culture too reliant on the properties selling themselves. Fine when SpongeBob and TMNT were top dogs, but not anymore.

I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to do work higher then level. Working with great content, very creative people and company offers many morale building activities.

    Cons

Upper staff members are a little old for the audience. There is no switch up from team to team making some jobs feel a bit stale.

    Advice to Management

Every creative person you hired was for a reason, use them! Internal mobility among the different teams of the Nickelodeon group keeps the creativity internal but allows fresh eyes and thoughts on each division.

I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great employees, decent hours, fun and engaging productions, decent locations, lots of women in upper management

    Cons

Not quite a cohesive workforce, not as collaborative as they could be, not great at fostering growth/mentors for upcoming talent

    Advice to Management

Work to build a better community within the company. There is a good amount of promotion within, but most of it is without guidance and support. Upper management could do a better job of teaching their employees, and learning themselves, how to be strong and efficient leaders.

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to work with and meet a lot of amazing people, and Nickelodeon looks really good on a resume.

    Cons

Every production is different but for mine, the hours were horrible. Most days I probably worked 9-10am to 8-9pm and we always had lunch meetings so I never got a break. I had tried to talk to our producer about how I was overwhelmed with the amount of work, but that quickly turned from a two way conversation to, me just listening to her tell me how it's really not that bad and going over the schedule months down the line. The truth was, our schedule changed every day. So her going over the schedule was pointless.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make sure your employees have a good work like balance, and don't leave it up to the producers to do that. My experience is that the producer only cared about herself and looking good to her superiors. When people get burned out so quickly they don't want to work with your company again and you could loose really hard working good people that way.

I worked at Nickelodeon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generous paid time off and decent benefits. Seven summer Fridays are given to all salaried employees. The company is constantly making improvements to the building and offers tons of programs for inclusion and outreach. Getting rid of Philippe Dauman can only bring positive change and hopefully some stability.

    Cons

The joy of working for such an amazing brand quickly wears off revealing Nickelodeon to be just another dysfunctional corporate titan. The company has no plan whatsoever to transition into the digital age. A TV-first strategy is still in place. Incompetent management that routinely fail their way to the top are in full force. Worse, micromanagement is at a sociopathic level. Everyone is focused on the most minute and inconsequential details which makes the job unfulfilling. There’s no sense of empowerment or delegation whatsoever; all rank-and-file are expected to execute what their superiors tell them and not ask questions. There are so many creative people here, all of whom are buried under and endless stack of executives desperate to put their stamp on something.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the organization so there are less chiefs and more indians. Modernize the review process so that employees can give feedback on management and on each other. Prune the dead wood. Cutback on the constant internal show-and-tell where we prove how busy we all are to each other. Focus on cultivating new stars instead of grabbing talent from the social sphere.

I have been working at Nickelodeon full-time

    Pros

Relaxed, professional, respectful, good work/life balance, creative

    Cons

corporate, comfortable, a little political, plays it safe occasionally

    Advice to Management

Too much internal squabble that tends to water down great creative.
