Pros

Genuinely talented staff propping the business up by working for less than their worth

Cons

Insincere and uncaring senior management, informing staff about redundancy while reading off a PowerPoint, and writing fake reviews on here for example. Two recent rounds of redundancies including half of the teaching team. Shady business practices including interviewing students for non existent jobs and hiring them for imaginary projects in order to get their money. Very poor compensation for the workload and no benefits. A 4 day work week was dangled over our head for a long time and the business was optimised (ie. the workload was condensed) for this to start, then it was cancelled last minute however the workload never reverted to how it was prior to that. Staff have been publicly bullied by senior leadership in an all hands meeting. The company is haemorrhaging talent regardless of redundancies, and the staff left are incredibly burnt out and moral is unbelievably low. Senior leadership take very high wages and pension contributions but were not willing to take any form of pay cut before firing staff weeks before Christmas. Poor business decisions like acquiring a failing £1.5m business and a constant stream of new business ventures that go nowhere. Avoid at all costs.

Pros

- Nice people who care about the company - Incredibly inclusive

Cons

- higher ups are completely separated from the rest of the company. - a lot of mentors don't actually put any effort in to actually improving and are quite lazy. Some very questionable business decisions regarding funding and offering of employment to students so that government funding can be claimed, meanwhile promising things that frankly don't happen. The bootcamp is now heading back to being a non funded bootcamp. Save your money, it's not the bootcamp it was. If you are looking to work at northcoders, there will be next to no coding time as the internal development team has now shut down due to people leaving.

Pros

- Some GENUINELY talented people who really care for what they do.

Cons

- Career progression does not exist if you are not in a clique with the senior management - The company does not follow their own values; they claim that they are “People First” - this is very much not the case. - Very low pay for the industry. - Senior management completely closed off from the company these days, employees thoughts are not taken into consideration at all. - Complete lack of transparency and employee well-being is non existent. People are struggling. - Northcoders is very against unions and are actively trying to union bust. - Recently made multiple employees redundant, complete teams being gutted for “cost efficiency”. - The co founder's third attempt at a consultancy business has caused a lot of money to be pulled out of the company to hire their own employees. - Seniors telling employees after said redundancies to work double hard to get more money for the company. - Tutors told that they may be made redundant too if they don’t ensure students stay on the course.
