Pros
I started worked at Novant 10 years ago, and I have worked in 3 different units over those 10 years. I have had the chance to try different things and grow with the company. I have been able to move shifts to make my job work for my life, helping to balance my home/kids, work, and starting back to school to get my advance nursing degree. I have worked with great managers who do listen and help work out schedules and workload. I also take part with the Business Resources Groups which has helped to network and expand my reach within the system. Not everyday is perfect, but overall I have loved working here.
Cons
Most bedside nursing units don't offer enough ancillary staff. As a staff nurse you are often answering phones, call bells, handing out meal trays, etc. I have also experienced personal safety issues with patients, but I don't blame the workplace for patient/family violence-that is the nature of the job I suppose (although NOT acceptable).

Pros
Amazing benefits for employees, as expected of a medical group. Generous PTO, though it is used for all work absences.
Cons
Work is monotonous, and constant changes in the health insurance industry will affect your productivity. Felt there was very little room for growth, spent five years in an entry-level position despite my best attempts. Have begun to discourage "promotions," open positions are increasingly lateral moves. Will possibly lose money starting a new role.

Pros
Novant is one of 2 major healthcare systems in my area. Their employee insurance is affordable and offers excellent coverage even at the lowest tier. They are well known for having better insurance than their competitor healthcare system.
Cons
I was hired as a CNA in the summer of 2022 at $15.50/hr with evening and weekend differentials. I was genuinely shocked at how low the pay was. Novant decided to raise their starting base pay to $17/hr starting in Jan 2023 but it’s still too low for how high the staffing ratios are. I have 8 or more patients in MedSurg and sometimes up to 12. RNs have up to 6 patients in MedSurg. I rarely have a moment to sit down or even go to the bathroom during my 12 hour shifts because we never have enough time to do everything we need to do for our patients.

Pros
Work from Home Pretty Good PTO Health Benefits are best in market
Cons
- No Holidays off, Not even federal holidays which is why they give so much PTO. About 8 hrs per paycheck - Many people are overworked and have multiple duties outside of their main job - Upper management is quick to notice your faults rather than your success - There's no real "learning"period to get equipped into the system - you really hit the ground running as if you already worked there before. -Quite clicky and hierarchy mentality. Expertise and insight from "lower level" specialists is not well received or respected. The job isn't hard but the people make it harder. I cried when I left this job because I love what I do but some of (not all) the people I worked with didn't make me feel safe or welcome to contribute or just be myself. If management changes, I would definitely go back.

Pros
Benefits. But Novant stops paying for your health insurance if you develop a serious medical problem.
Cons
Pay rate is way below market average. Traveler nurses get paid two times more than us and expected to do less. There is no work-life balance. Every week I'm supposed to spend at least 8 hours of my free time to keep up with in-service classes. Management has no idea what is going on on the floor. All the equipment are neglected and malfunctions, failure of the computers etc are an essential part of our daily work. I've been working as a critical care nurse for Novant for 5 years. This year I got 99 cents raise which made my salary $32/hour. When I wanted to transfer to another unit, they said my pay rate would be 29 dollars an hour there. They said they didn't have money to pay us because they spent too much on travel nurses. Today I gave my 30 days' notice and I'm leaving for an agency.

Pros
Pay is good for the job. Hours are good especially if you have family. Easy to schedule appointments around work. Good work and life balance.
Cons
My particular location had issues because not everyone was a team player. The boss made it worse. It makes a difference if your boss is kind or just playing favorites.
