I worked at Novaspect full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Challenging work, excellent work life balance, front line managers that do care, cool technology, good coworkers, relaxed work environment, willing to train.

    Cons

A lot of secrecy from the middle level management on up, lots of lies from the executives on down, poorly focused on sales development, too rapid of growth, followed by massive downsizing, insufficient severance packages after wage freeze. Management lied about the frequency that full bonuses were paid. Very little room for upward mobility if you are not in with the executive click.

    Advice to Management

If the company isn't doing well, communicate that to the employees. Sales consistently compainged of lost opportunities, that were management decisions. Novaspect's decline was self inflicted. If it does come to "force reduction," give the affected employees a three months heads up, we would have left quietly and properly handed over our projects.

I have been working at Novaspect full-time

    Pros

Will hire new grads and people who have been out of the work force for an extended period of time. Great people to work with in general.

    Cons

Struggling with declining sales over the past few years. Management has overextended the company by growing too fast, acquiring companies and adding locations without consistent sales growth to support it. Several layers of middle management added with no benefit to the bottom line. Early retirements for seasoned veterans without replacing in kind has lead to an extremely overworked front line of workers in some areas. No raises this year across the board.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your true assets are your employees and not your buildings or business management systems. You are sure to lose your hardest working employees with the recent developments.

Really cares about their employees. Many side benefits to working for Novaspect. They have a great program for employee recognition. You're not just another number.

    Cons

None that really mattered. Great company.

    Advice to Management

Keep up what you are doing. I really enjoyed my time at Novaspect. Really hated to leave such a great company.

I worked at Novaspect full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Friendly Environment
    - Provides Overtime to meet project goals
    - Starting Salary was Good
    - A great learning environment for young and developing engineers.
    - 50% Chance the person you report to is not in the office you work out off.

    Cons

    - Development was lacking for mid to experienced engineers.
    - As starting salary was good, it progressed extremely slowly.
    - Management does little to hold on to younger engineering staff.
    - Expect to do at least 3 peoples job fully be able to meet your bonus goals.
    - 50% Chance the person you report to is not in the office you work out off.

    Advice to Management

    - Focus on losing dead weight and finding individuals who can step up to the challenges your customers present to your organization. Work harder to retain these talented individuals. For a very republican focused management team they are very democratic with how bonus's and raises are administered.

-Send middle management to some leadership development courses. Just because they make amazing engineers does not make them worth a dam when it comes to being a capable manager.

    - Having Micro-manages that don't understand the demographics of each region, along with the customer requirements. Reluctance to travel to Schaumburg by most of the Twin city based management team.

I have been working at Novaspect full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management has staffed the company sufficiently so that everyone can get their work done in eight hours! Training is extensive and really good (live classes, individual sessions, TONS of videos); I won't get full work duties until four full months after my start date. Management really cares that employees are happy with their jobs, and there is enough growth, shuffling, and flexibility that employees are not only allowed to but URGED to seek out positions that interest them. Office culture is cooperative and helpful; everyone is willing to share what they know.

    Cons

I haven't found any yet! I'll report back in a year or so but so far so good.

    Advice to Management

I really can't. The whole arrangement is so far forward of anything I've ever experienced (35 years and 5 previous jobs in the working world) that I don't have anything to compare it to!

    - Average salary, but chance for OT when working at customer sites
    - Good office perks
    - Novaspect is willing to invest formal training classes in you
    - Novaspect as a company is doing very well, consistently growing and profiting

    Cons

    - Novaspect is an Emerson local business partner, so it is always subject to Emerson shenanigins.
    - Nobody has heard of your company
    - The customer is always right, even when it's wrong
    - Cubicle farm
    - So small that long term, I can't really imagine being able to move up much or change posiitons
    - Fair amount of complainers

I have been working at Novaspect (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities for self motivated and driven people. The benefits of a small company are very noticeable in almost every department.

    Cons

Currently going through lots of change. They have a tendency to keep people around and not letting them go when they should, but that has started to change.

    Advice to Management

If you put lipstick on a pig, it is still a pig. They have gotten into a everything is great atmosphere, and at times that has caused unrest with those underneath the leadership team.
