Empty Promises, Bullying, and Toxicity

Pros

Wonderful co-workers, if you ever have time to talk to them during your copious hours of unpaid overtime.

Cons

It saddens me to have to write this, but I think it’s important for people to know what’s truly happening behind the scenes here. An important lesson in wellness - many businesses in this industry will claim they care about people's well-being and health, but they don't necessarily practice what they preach, and aren't always in it for the right reasons. This place is absolutely TOXIC. OSEA talks a big game and pretends to care about their employees, but behind the scenes it’s an absolute mess. Terrible communication all around, creating constant miscommunication, stress, and conflict for everyone. I worked there for 3 years in multiple departments/ roles as I was promoted, so I can say with confidence these problems are company wide. When other companies upped their “front line” workers pay during the pandemic (as they rightly should have when people are putting their health and lives on the line) OSEA cut their “front line” worker’s pay!! They expect the world and don’t fairly compensate their employees. LOTS of unpaid overtime. They say you're a part of the “OSEA family", but unless you're actually a relative, it’s clear you’re not. You’ll spend years of working your butt off in hopes that your efforts are recognized and appreciated, and will instead receive constant emotional and verbal abuse without any thanks. And yes- this toxicity comes straight from the top, so it's unfortunately unavoidable. (**Note that not a single review for OSEA has "CEO Approval" marked... This is not a coincidence...) They talk a big game, occasionally throwing some money at you for "wellness benefits", and like to have flashy parties to show off how well they’re doing, but that's the extent of it. Use extreme caution here- no matter how hard you work or how dedicated you are, in the end you are absolutely expendable. They play favorites, and if you speak out against the toxicity and bullying, they are cut throat, ruthless, and you will be punished for it. This is deeply seeded and even in their "HR". 100% not worth it.

Pros

Generally great team members whom I admire for their level of creativity and passion. With the right mindset, a lot of learning opportunities. I was fortunate to be a part of an amazing team who created some best-in-class work, and learned so much about my own capabilities there. Completely remote with perks such as Summer Fridays, quarterly wellness stipend and unlimited PTO. Trust is given by management. Not a lot of micromanaging. OSEA has great brand values and mission. Female-owned and led which deserves so much respect. Also, the product is truly great.

Cons

The nepotism is rampant and egregious. Family members and friends of the family currently hold positions that they are completely unqualified for, especially those in management roles. CEO preaches a workplace based on kindness, but I often found myself on the receiving end of extremely unprofessional, reactive and rude Slack and text messages from her. You work to serve the CEO — not the brand — which can prove to be difficult. Not a lot of risk taking or out of the box thinking here. Be prepared to acquiesce to all of her requests, even if they may not be the right fit for the company. Those that were steering the brand in the right direction (as in, highly qualified team members) have all left. Lack of transparency around company wide goals and initiatives. There was zero goal planning or opportunities to move up presented to me, even though I consistently beat my goals over the course of my time there.

Pros

Great discount, cute location, amazing aesthetic. A few kind co workers.

Cons

Toxic environment, poor communication! If you’re looking to grow with this company just be prepared to wear a lot of hats! They want you to go above and beyond with very little pay. They made myself and the other estheticians feel like we didn’t matter as much as the in house team ( they handled more of the back end of business). We (estheticians) were always left out of team activities and if we were allowed to come they would only invite us to WORK so we could perform facials and body treatments for the other staff. It’s not a place of wellness, you will leave that place feeling so drained.
