I have been working at Optical Express full-time

    Pros

    nice coworkers
    ok pay
    free eye tests

    Cons

understaffed, so hard to get holidays
    insane amount of pressure
unrealistic targets/expectations in regards to business
double standards between management, optometrists and floor staff
    not payed for overtime
dont care about customers, only profit
    breaks not a legal standards

    Advice to Management

treat your staff better, and don't place unrealistic expectations on them, then penalise them when they don't deliver. train your managers to better interact with staff and lead by example. this is why so many people leave.

I worked at Optical Express full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked with some amazing people who tried to care about the company but only got treated like they where incapable of the job.

    Cons

Worst company I ever came across. bonus structure is shocking never correct and no way to track this. Training basically doesn't exist. Staff are encouraged to rip patients off to get the best sale, no one cares about the patient only the price they are going to pay.

    Advice to Management

Try recruiting someone who is capable of management. Blind folded monkeys could do a better job .... literally.

I worked at Optical Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked with some nice people but sadly many have left due to the working environment and the idiotic powers that be.

    Cons

Powers that be demoralise staff, the genuine ones who want to succeed will have no chance in this company unless your face fits.

    Advice to Management

You are losing good staff left, right and centre, staff are stressed out and feel demotivated. Regional Managers only interested in certain stores, the others get left and ignored. You have to gain the respect of your staff and the staff do not feel respected at all in the current regime. The happier your staff are, the more they love their job and the better your sales will be.

I have been working at Optical Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Your immediate team will be great and have you in fits of laughter.

    Cons

    - they will mess you about from the minute you walk through the door
    - bonus will consistently change when management feel you are "earning too much" consistently moving the goal post
    - Operations couldn't do a rota if that was there only job
    - managers seem think they own the place
    - there is constantly someone in your business
    - if managers don't like u, you're screwed. No room for progression unless ur face fits
    - Training is a joke.

    Advice to Management

    Be consistent
the people who for you are not robots
Have respect for who you talk to

I worked at Optical Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good people work in stores - 20 word minimum and I have nothing else to say on the pro's

    Cons

The most sales focused job I've ever had.
Sexist remarks and bullying are rewarded.
    Never EVER paid on time.
    Not paid for overtime.
Screamed at over the phone from directors for not giving people glasses who don't need them.
Stores are falling apart in desperate need of repair.
Suppliers aren't paid meaning customers don't receive what the pay for.
    Refunds take 28 working days.
Stone Age company with the most de moralising individuals pulling the strings.

    Advice to Management

Close the business, fill your boots with concrete and jump.

-No benefits that are worth mentioning

    Advice to Management

-Empower your staff to do the job you have hired them to do
-Understand the importance of engaging with and rewarding all your staff - not just optoms!

I worked at Optical Express full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People. But that is an attribute of any job I've been in and is no way derived from this atrocious company.

    Cons

Minute micro management from an unethical CEO down. Managed by threats and bullying. A punitive environment. Consequences of not towing the line are typically an on-the-spot sacking, even if it's Christmas Eve. Optical Express breeds motivation by fear. And the billy-no-mates CEO thrives on it. Bosses can’t be questioned, leaders can’t be challenged and employees must submit to whatever they’re told.

Zero development opportunities... unless you are a nodding sheep.

Bare legal employee entitlement as suggested by the government. Minimum wage, 9-5.30 with half hour lunch and minimal holiday entitlement. You will be disciplined if you are even a minute late or clock out for too many toilet breaks. Even if you regularly work additional hours.

Zero supplier relationships. Invoices not paid. No thought to customer care.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking you know how to manage and let the people you employ do their job.
