I have been working at OptionsHouse full-time

    Pros

    * The firm is very client-centric.
    * The corporate culture is friendly and collaborative, with shared values that are literally written on the walls of the office.
    * Management decisions are data driven, with measurements across all functional areas.

    Cons

    * The firm is in a period of rapid growth and that can drive an intensity that is not for all people.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the client focus!

    I worked at OptionsHouse full-time

    Pros

OptionsHouse was a great growth stage FinTech company to work for. Their private equity owners wanted strong growth. The management team had solid industry experience from the other discount brokerages. They brought their outside knowledge to the firm.

    Cons

With any merger, there are two cultures that are trying to be combined - it'll eventually happen, but expect churn as the new culture is being redefined.

    Pros

Great culture and work/ life balance , good way to learn new/ different aspects of the company. 401K match is great! Hours in operation departments are lenient. Monthly lunches provided with bagels every Friday.

    Cons

Getting bought out by E*Trade, culture shock when E*Trade bought OH out with no real communication from upper management. Pay - people with similar roles at bigger companies are making approximately $10,000 more a year.

    Advice to Management

    Communication to all employees

I worked at OptionsHouse full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for with decent pay and benefits. Free snacks and soda with monthly company sponsored events. Room for growth if you are willing to go above and beyond, without the big company politics. There are a few standouts in each department that seem to have gotten where they are due to being the best at their jobs. CEO is great.

    Cons

Most of the technology and tools are very dated. Workload can be demanding. Technology can feel like a cost center instead of key to the business due to a large amount of offshoring. Owned by private equity firm who most likely will trade technical debt for short term growth.

    Advice to Management

Focus on modernizing technology in order to attract tech talent. Formalize an internship or campus hiring program to grow talent instead of having such a large amount of offshore developers.

I have been working at OptionsHouse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The right pieces are in place for a gigantic leap forward. There are good leaders in every department and the company is generally staffed with talented workers who are fun to work with. The post-merger turmoil is over. Employees are excited about growing the business in the coming months and years.

    Cons

The work space does not match the people. The people are fun. The work space is dull and dry. There was no CIO for a long time, but that problem has apparently been solved.

    Advice to Management

Personality and fit are more important than how a candidate looks on paper. Let more people interview your top managers before hiring.

    Advice to Management

Provide a vision, the company doesn't have any direction. What has changed in the past year, nothing?

    Pros

The office location is convenient for commuters - easy access to public transportation.
The company has competitive salary and benefits.
The company offers a challenging work environment.
    Free gym in the building.

    Cons

The company offers a challenging work environment.
    Unclear company identity post merger.
Though the office is new, it could use an interior decorator add some personality.

    Advice to Management

Though OptionsHouse is a stable and profitable company, the culture and morale needs improvement. Attempts are made within departments to improve culture and morale, but senior mgt and C level execs need to lead the effort.
The company went through a merger with TradeMonster last year, but really hasn't found its true identity yet. What is the brand?

I have been working at OptionsHouse full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The location is great: the building and facilities are hip and cool.

Being a merger of two smaller online retail trading companies who have solid plans to grow substantially, they are investing a lot in people and technology. There is a palpable feeling of being on the ground floor of something new that could be big. There is new leadership added to ensure a clean growth from start-up to enterprise that has really solidified over the last few months providing an exciting vision of business and technology working closely together to go to the cloud and modernize the platform that was good for its time, but now is ripe to exploit new technology.

Chicago is the Fintech incubator and this is the right place if you want in that space.

    Cons

As in every organization, there is still some who pine for the glory days of either old TradeMonster or Peak6. Everyone tries to be understanding, but sometimes it gets in the way of moving forward. Though the vast majority have embraced the new company and strategy. Some of the technology is a little dated and startupy (lots of open source), but it’s getting better.

    Advice to Management

Reward those who are doing their best to make this a great place to work. Pay top salary for top talent.
