    I worked at PC-Doctor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

First and foremost are the people. The company has some of the brightest, technically competent, and self-motivated developers I've ever had the pleasure to work with. The company plans several fun events throughout the year, which really sets the tone for the workplace. This is a relaxed, laid-back, fun group of people who get amazing work done.

The tools and technologies employed are generally current-generation (people were upgrading to Windows 10 and Visual Studio 2015 when I left). You are given a lot of latitude when it comes to development tools and preferences, as long as it works with the automation processes employed (like the source control system, for example).

The work is varied and interesting. Everyone strives for improvement and everyone is encouraged to contribute in ways that may be outside of their title (such as writing for the Dr. Blip blog on the web site).

Thursday afternoons are "Teach Me Something" days, when employees use a conference room over lunch to share the things they are working on or find interesting in their off-hours. The breadth of knowledge in the company is incredible.

Finally, management is easy to work with, there aren't any "silos" (it's a small company after all), and it's easy to fit in and feel like a part of the group.

    Cons

Some of the customers can come up with some pretty random requirements at times, occasionally causing unplanned work and schedule confusion. This is fortunately a pretty rare occurrence (at least it was from my perspective as an engineer).

There aren't any annual bonuses or stock grants or anything like that. The salaries are competitive, and the benefits are in line with other area employers, but something extra around the holidays would be nice.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on your people, keep the environment fun and relaxed, and keep doing the team-building events throughout the year. You have an incredible group of people there, which is a rare thing in this industry and is one of your most valuable assets!

    Pros

Interesting stuff to work on: diagnostics software, big data. As others have said, many smart people who get along and work well. Office is casual (nerf, ping pong, events).

    Cons

Company is smaller than some, which may be a plus or minus depending on how you see it.

    Pros

You get to wear shorts when it is hot. Cloud, HW, UI, and other interesting areas to work in are available.

    Cons

You can't wear shorts when it's warm. As a small company, PC-Doctor has limited opportunities.

    Pros

The QA and development teams are great. In general they communicate well, are open to discussion, and never hostile. Engineering gets +++. Product management is pretty good now after some rough years in the past. Non-senior management and staff are excellent and honest.

    Cons

The big con is senior management. There are only three people at that level that you can point to for that. Only two communicate with employees on regular basis. One is a ex-district attorney and you really can't take what she says as truth unless you parse through it with a fine tooth comb and, even then, you better get it in writing!

    Advice to Management

Step away from your pet project, sell the company and retire 4 years too late.

"Outstanding workers, but the highest level of executive management is endangering and limiting the company's success."

    Pros

The people who do the work are the best and brightest in the industry. The rigid hiring process had provided us with engineers that could easily be working in the Google and Microsoft's of the world. Every day you learn something new that enriches your knowledge technically. People like working with each other and enjoy the technical challenges.

    Cons

Categorically the downfall of the company is the _senior_ executive management. The topmost management is inexperienced in company management and severely lacking in basic leadership abilities. While there is excellent leadership and management for the lower levels of the executive team they are stymied by the senior management. Due to this inconsistency in leadership there is a general lack of distrust and a complete lack of faith in management at the lower levels of employees.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate your behavior. The highest management level needs to take responsibility for all company issues. True leadership means taking ownership of all the problems and having the good sense to step back from issues and have impartial groups evaluate problem situations prior to determining the course of action. One cannot appropriately evaluate a severe situation by being directly involved in investigations.
