I have been working at PCORI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

First, I want to address there is uncertainty regarding the continuation of the PCOR trust fund, PCORI's money source. The HR department is making adequate adjustments and doing a great job. The company has a great culture and they value input from anyone, regardless of title.

    Cons

People that are rating 1 star for PCORI are ill-informed and people that blame HR have not a clue what they do everyday. People always like to fine a scapegoat even if there isn't anyone to blame

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing. The intern class for Spring 2017 was fantastic.

    I worked at PCORI full-time

    Pros

The organization is dedicated to learning and process improvements. They provide a lot of professional development opportunities and really support their staff to grow.

    Cons

As with any organization, there are some difficult people to work with and unfortunately, the ones in senior positions go unchecked.

I have been working at PCORI full-time

    Pros

    Good benefits
The only thing that is good are the benefits

    Cons

High turnover and uncertainty regarding job security and if PCORI will continue to exist.
Ambiguity over terms and no consensus within the organization on terminology
Investigators upset over lack of clarity in what PCORI is asking for as sudden changes occur without any prior knowledge
There is truth behind the reviews that mention the incompetence of HR

    Advice to Management

Follow the NIH in how they are organized and how they disseminate information so that staff at PCORI don't look incompetent
Don't suddenly spring surprises on staff
Hire more program associates and less program officers as you are top-heavy
Don't suddenly reorganize the organization without some form of notice of the changes to occur
Quickly reward young talent and promote them
Don't think so highly of yourselves that you look for extremely highly qualified program officers and then have to take what comes (which are not highly qualified) for there is mixed reactions within the research community regarding your effectiveness and credibility

I have been working at PCORI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros are my team members that support and appreciate my work. The collegial environment among coworkers. And the "mostly" smart, dynamic, and helpful staff.

    Cons

Uncertainty of working here due to the incoming administration and what that will mean for PCORI, particulary in regards to the PCORI fee. Lack of transparency and communication from upper management especially during times of uncertainty. Lack of structure in terms of promotion, job titles, and salaries; it varies widely between departments and teams. Lack of acknowledgement for jobs well done or those that go over and beyond.

I have been working at PCORI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

PCORI has a great mission to help patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers made informed decisions, by providing the evidence to support decision making. Some words to describe the culture among the staff: positive, professional, fun-loving, vibrant, diverse, respectful, inquisitive, creative, hard-working, dedicated. There are many opportunities for career growth at PCORI because there are many teams, and job openings are regularly shared from within, and transitions between departments has typically gone very smoothly. PCORI is a relatively new institution, so many things are still being figured out, and new policies being adopted. There is great opportunity for employees to contribute meaningfully to current work and to help shape the future of the organization.

    Cons

On some issues, the senior management does not seem to work together well. Fortunately, it does seem that they are making efforts to work on this issue.

I have been working at PCORI full-time

    Pros

Nice work space, some nice people, great pay/benefits, close to metro Dupont Circle/Farragut West/North metro stops.

    Cons

No growth unless you are willing to suck up and/or stab a colleague in order to move up. I've seen a lot of people come and go with hopes of making a difference, only to get burned in the process.

    Advice to Management

Notice that we all have potential. Not everyone will brown-nose their way through your door. Pay attention to the behind-the-scenes staff who work hard but are not always asking for rewards.
