I have been working at PayCycle as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Very laid back environment. Casual dress code. Room to advance. Do special things for there employees. Company outings, catered lunches for your hard work. In your down time you were allow to surf the net. This is a self management environment. I reported to a supervisor via online meetings on a monthly basis.

    Cons

When tax season comes around it gets kinda of hectic.

    Advice to Management

Some opportunity for management rolls but not many

    Pros

PayCycle is truly a customer-driven company that takes its mission, vision and values seriously. Decisions get evaluated based on whether they truly move the business. The culture is open, honest, direct, and encourages individual creativity. CEO Jim Heeger provides the experience and perspective to help the team weather challenges and accept course corrections as needed. It is, at the end of the day, an extremely ethical, people-centric culture.

    Cons

Cracking the small business market is extremely challenging. PayCycle has a strong position in this market, but the real breakthroughs are elusive.

    Advice to Management

Keep the open, honest dialogue alive. Having moved on, it is what I miss most.

    Pros

PayCycle has an excellent work / life balance ingrained in its culture. Most people are in around 9AM and out by 6pm. People play sports during lunch, and foosball and ping pong throughout the day.

There are fun activities throughout the year. The best is their Halloween celebrations. Crazy elaborate decorations that are super fun.

Obviously, the culture and the environment are the best things about the company.

    Cons

Growth is slowing down. It is unclear whether there will ever be a lucrative exit.

As the company has grown bigger, the talent has been watered down at the top levels.

Some might argue that people are having too much fun and are too laid back there...at the expense of a more successful business.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate performance at the SENIOR management level. There are some great people, and some not so great people.

    Pros

The people, the product, and the potential. The people are balanced, smart, focused and fun. The product has been built with a very customer focused development process targeted at small businesses and their needs. The company is experiencing great growth which has led to great opportunities for it's employees.

    Cons

The facilities are a little spartan like. So if you are looking for the nice office with all the amenities, this isn't the place. But if it's about the people and not the place, then it's great.

    Advice to Management

Be careful that as PayCycle grows, we don't hire too many chiefs without the indians to support the growth.

    Pros

Chill atmosphere. Easy to get along with the other employees. Great location in Palo Alto. Room for growth is a plus.

    Cons

Small company. So it has limited staff members. Not much room for help and direction or expansion of pay. Overtime is hectic due to little staff.

    Advice to Management

Work on rewarding your best employees by giving better compensation and benefits packages. Also try to get rid of the useless employees.
