I worked at Perception Programs, INC as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved working with the clients in the residential program. I was able to gain a lot of experience by running groups and managing a small caseload of clients. The work was definitely rewarding.

    Cons

The program was slightly unorganized. Many of the paid staff members reported being dissatisfied with their pay and current management of the program.

    Advice to Management

I think it would help for management to be more approachable and accessible to the program's staff.

I worked at Perception Programs, INC (Less than a year)

    Pros

I didn't mind the boss but the policies there didn't make sense

    Cons

Low pay, it was less than I agreed to
No sense of job security at all, if an inmate takes an extra med or one goes missing, you are to blame even though we aren't med certified to be doing the job
    Having to take urine samples...gross
Not enough pay for a potentially risky job
I was constantly told "oh I will try to get you in a full-time position" and then always passed up. I didn't get why the false hope constantly.

    Advice to Management

    offer better pay

    Pros

Ethically driven non-profit with a strong management team.
Good benefits for full time workers - 3 weeks sick & 3 weeks vacation. 10 holiday, 2.5 personal days.
New CEO has a lot of energy and is person / client orientated.

    Cons

Company does not have many advancement opportunities for non-LCSW personnel.
    No education benefits.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Perception Programs, INC full-time

    Pros

The camaraderie at the individual programs is quite good from what I have been part of and the feeling that you are doing something positive to help other people is a large plus. The benefits for full time workers seem to be fairly good with health & dental insurance as well as generous personal leave, sick , and vacation time.

    Cons

Communication between programs and administration has been lacking in the past. In addition while the benefits are good the pay is not. Also there are limited opportunities for advancement within the agency.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication across the agency both between programs and the administration. Finding some way of boosting the pay especially with the part time employees would be beneficial.

    Pros

Helping the women to Recover from their Addiction

    Cons

Very Stressful and it consumes a lot of your time

    Advice to Management

Upper mangament should not be prejudice

I worked at Perception Programs, INC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only real pros that I can think of to working there would be the benefits. There is generous sick time and vacation time for full time employees. They also pay for most of your health insurance.

    Cons

The management is horrible and heavy handed. Your decisions will be undermined. Everything is disorganized. No one knows what they are doing. They do not train you, you are expected to do your job from the day you start. There are frequent miscommunications--staff members are not given all of the information they need, or are told conflicting information. You are not supported at all. The case loads are way too high and not feasible for a person to handle. There is a culture of fear.

    Advice to Management

The high turnover reflects on your inability to manage people. Start fresh.

    Pros

Perception Programs provides the most time off between holidays, personal days, sick days and vacation days I've ever seen. They go out of their way to accommodate staff with time off. The clinical and administrative staff go out of their way to help people. The atmosphere is, in general, laid back.

    Cons

Perception Programs does not provide raises, cost of living increases or merit salary increases. There are no opportunities to advance within the company. Facilities are poorly maintained. Staff is not treated equally.

    Advice to Management

It would be helpful to offer some kind of raise to all staff, even if it's pennies----Raises motivate people. Use funds to clean and repair facilities instead of on "special projects" for senior management. Treat people equally.
