I worked at Perfumania Holdings full-time

    Pros

Encourages promoting from within the company for those that qualify. One of few mall retail chains that pays base + commission to all store sales associates without a cap. Above average base pay. Although many retail anchors are struggling to stay afloat with the strength of e-commerce, specialty retail chains like Perfumania can survive if they start righting the ship.

    Cons

Lack of company culture. Disconnect between corporate retail departments and the retail stores, causing avoidable frustration with the sales staff. Resisting the necessities to sync online sales business with retail stores; vast differences in pricing and promotion left both customers and retail associates frustrated resulting in lost revenue. Need to improve upon reliability of support in the field as well as stability, leadership and performance acknowledgement from corporate.

    Advice to Management

"Brick-n-mortar" retail is struggling to survive, but don't forget you're best weapon to stay in business are your dedicated employees. Take care of them and they will take care of you!

I have been working at Perfumania Holdings full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small team, so everyone becomes like family and for a manager it's a lot easier to handle and make schedules. Shipment isn't difficult. Commission and spiffs are the best part about my job! No overwhelming floor moves. I now have an abundance of perfumes. Sometimes when we no longer carry a product instead of throwing away the tester one of us can keep it.

    Cons

Good luck keeping a qualified assistant manager! they don't get paid nearly as much as the store manager and if they are really qualified and great at the position, they know they can get paid more almost anywhere else. Commission is fantastic but only at certain times of the year. oh yeah and THIS COMPANY IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. they are definitely going to continue closing more and more stores. I'm looking for a new job.

    Advice to Management

i've been with the company for over a year and sometimes my DM still doesn't get my name right. that about sums it up.

I worked at Perfumania Holdings full-time

    Pros

The ability to learn about many fragrances and fun coworkers, commission and discount on fragrance.

    Cons

Full time workers hours are cut without notice. Its not a stable work environment if you have your rental responsibilities and bills to maintain. Your left scrambling to figure out how to make up for the loss of work hours. It's great for a student living at home who has no bill responsibilities. The other cons are no (fragrance gratis) for all of your hard work and selling.

    Advice to Management

Provide a more stable working environment for staff with a good salary and stable job hours. Be honest before anyone applies that the company cuts job hours.
Be creative and reward your employees from time to time by providing free (fragrance gratis) to show them appreciation for the hard work and energy they put into selling your merchandise.

I always smell good, I loved my co workers, and I loved satisfying customers. I was able to work on my Spanish speaking skills, and work learn more about the paper work side of jobs.

    Cons

Because perfume is more of a luxury than a need, sometime it is really slow, and making sure everything constantly looks good can be trying at times.
