I have been working at Ply Gem full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Productive work. Summer hours are great.

    Cons

Winter lay offs. Short handed 80% of the time. Pay scale doesn't work.

    Advice to Management

Step pay doesn't work. Hard working individuals should not vet paid the same or less than the person that shoes up and does nothing

    Pros

Their is an elevator, their are 2 lunch rooms one in the hot/cold shop and one in the hot office. They provide ice when it works. No real pros

    Cons

Managers don't listen, don't care, say you are slacking to prod you along. Just a bad environment. Makes you ill. People quit in groups. They can't keep people

    Advice to Management

Listen with the intend to hear and not just respond or interrupt the employee. LISTEN, CARE, STOP LYING

I worked at Ply Gem full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Floor associates are hard-working and the company makes attempts to show appreciation for its associates. Pay was good as well.

    Cons

Often felt like a free-for-all between managers of each department - A ton of finger pointing and the blame game. Quality is a team effort and it was suffering because there was no teamwork. Too much transitioning at both corporate and local plant levels. No organization and chaos most of the time. No work life balance unless you make it for yourself, otherwise expect to work 12-14 hour days and some weekends. There is no formal training, so most things are learned on the job. Most efforts for process improvement were negated / pointless due to a lack of implementation by supervisors and managers - nothing was getting done and customers were always complaining about the same issues.

    Advice to Management

Put training sessions in place. Get the right people into management. Layout a means for a better work-life balance for employees.

I worked at Ply Gem full-time

    Pros

You get paid weekly and the health insurance is great. Getting paid every week is a great benefit as well. I like how I got two weeks of vacation.

    Cons

They're Racist. Very unorganized. They don't adhere to OSHA regulations. The management is horrible. If you're not their favorite. You can forget it.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone fairly. Say something and mean it. Adhere to the company's policy. If someone come to you with a problem don't brush it off.

  10. "Former employee"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Great people to work with. Some benefits like 10 days vacation first year but no PTO.

    Cons

Management is not the most effective nor efficient. They will try to get as much work out of you that that can without a promotion or any extra pay. Little room for growth or opportunities unless you can relocate to headquarters.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they matter and are appreciated.
