    Pros

Amazing team, flexibility, positive working environment, strong family culture and fun company events you are able to invite your significant others and family to!

    Cons

Do not have anything negative to say. My experience at Prospect has been nothing but positive.

Poor Professional Experience Created by Management

    May 3, 2022 - Senior Associate

    Pros

Prospect is a household name in the lending world and receives meaningful looks from investment banks and sponsors for M&A financing. Unfortunately, my experience was Prospect was primarily included in sponsors' short lists to justify using another lender. Prospect has a strong middle and junior team with impressive backgrounds and great attitudes. The co-workers improved the overall experience. Although, they churn at a high rate. Prospect is fully remote with some in-office locations. Very nice perk.

    Cons

    1. Micro-managing senior leadership is a significant distraction from actual work. 3x week pipeline update email, followed by 3x a week pipeline call. Trackers for every workstream that you are on and requires constant updating. Leadership is also intrusive and babysits employees in and out of office action. I was asked to complete the equivalent of a research report on investing strategy because they did not approve one of my personal trades. 2. Lack of diversity. As of 4/23/22, the investment team is comprised of 41 individuals. All 41 are men, of which 38 are white. 3. No long-term strategy and flip-flopping on new products and areas. Prospect has tried to launch new areas of focus but does not invest any capital or real resources into it. Senior leadership will ask the most junior resource to explore some of the most regulated industries in the world and expect industry-expert level direction. As a result, individuals are always spinning their wheels only to fail because of lack of actual direction. Most recent new hires (2020-2021 vintage) spent the year trying to launch a lower middle market private equity vehicle only to close no investments. Huge waste of the talent pool. 4. Poor work-life balance, even for finance and ex-banker standards. Friday afternoon staffings are almost weekly with the expectation of work completed by Monday. The syndicated group has poor processes leading to constant week-long sprints to get a deal done, only to be rewarded with another one immediately. The Sunday night pipeline email is the worst with questions asked that evening and responses expected same night. Vacations and personal commitments are not respected. 6. High turnover. My guess is 50%+ of the junior staff turned over in 2021. They couldn't keep people. Lots of people churned under 1 year or less of working there as well. 6. Overly aggressive non-compete. Mandatory 1-year non-compete and is very broad to all buy-side activity. Definitely negotiate this. Overall, I think the culture set at Prospect is poor, leading to unfavorable employee opinions. My advice to anyone interviewing is to contact former employees to get their opinion.

Great company with tons of upside potential!

    Pros

Prospect Capital is a great place for anyone who is hard-working, motivated to succeed, and wants to surround themselves with top-tier talent. Prospect gives you the tools to succeed by assigning each new hire to a mentor (typically a Managing Director or Principal) who looks after you and guides you to success. There is no doubt that the company is highly competitive, but you will truly learn a ton and the people are awesome! Additionally, management does a great job listening to your wants and needs. If you work hard, they will do everything they can to make you happy (no matter your age or role at the firm). I've really enjoyed my experience at Prospect thus far.

    Cons

Prospect can be high pressure at times but if you stay organized and are motivated to succeed, you will be just fine.

    High-achieving environment with untapped potential!

    Pros

Prospect is a dynamic and ever-changing environment. There is a high level of visibility in all roles and levels to senior management which creates a meritocracy where you have ample opportunity to grow and succeed in your position. Colleagues are some of the best in the field, but also friendly and welcoming. There is a lot of work and it can be intense, but your coworkers and the opportunity to succeed makes it worth it.

    Cons

This is not a company for everyone. Highly detail oriented, proactive, and fast-paced. You come to Prospect to work hard!

    Pros

You'll work alongside wonderful people who will take the time to ensure you have the right tools to succeed. If you have an interest in learning something new, Prospect will allow you to explore that interest and in turn can become another path for career development. Hard work does not go unnoticed and management take the time to listen should you have any concerns.

    Cons

Prospect is a high pressured environment with a lot going on at all times. You'll need to keep organized and anticipate next steps to stay ahead.

Great place to work if you are ambitious and proactive

    Pros

Opportunity to work with intelligent, hardworking and motivated individuals. Most employees genuinely want to work hard and do a good job. Autonomy and responsibility -there is opportunity to self-manage. Meritocracy- work hard and you will be rewarded. The size and structure of the company allows for growth. Fast-paced environment means no two days are the same. Excellent benefits- health insurance, Friday lunches/bagel Mondays, team events, company wide events (skiing trip, boat trip, holiday dinner).

    Cons

Prospect’s environment is not for everyone. Dedicated, proactive and ambitious individuals will do well. It can very fast-paced and senior management have high expectations of all employees.

Great Culture, Great Opportunity to Learn

    Pros

I have been an employee at Prospect Capital for over two years and the experience has been both very pleasant and educational. Managers are willing to teach as long as you have a strong work ethic and are willing to go above and beyond expectations. Along with hard work comes high rewards. Not only does Prospect provide great pay and bonuses, the companywide events are exceptional. Including ski trips to the best resort in Killington, VT, lavish holiday parties, to boat rides in NYC - for employees and families. I am especially impressed with how they are handling the COVID-19 work from home situation. From the very beginning of the pandemic, management was extremely understanding and allowed everyone to choose to either work from home, or come into the office (with proper NYC protocol) and has ensured us that our safety comes first. One thing remains consistent across the board at Prospect. If you work hard, take ownership, and have a positive attitude, you will reap all of the benefits of working at Prospect. Management will always take notice and I speak from experience.

    Cons

Not a 9-5 job, you may have to work longer hours.

    Pros

Lots of exposure working directly with deal team on acquisitions and valuations, little separation between front office and back office if you are looking to eventually transition.

    Cons

Con was the culture. Instead of efficiency being rewarded, there was pressure to always "show face" and stay late. Tone at the top was live to work, not work to live.

Prospect employees each have something that leads the firm to success.

    Pros

The top and junior level employees are hard workers who go above and beyond in order to obtain the best deals for the investment team. The administrative team try their best to support the firm in everything they need and as fast as possible. The CEO is always thinking of ways the firm to could be better, always seeks the opinions of the junior personal of any group and is always seeking the opions of the new hires. The communication at Prospect is via Email but employees are always a phone call away or message away. There are many postive employees who motivate you to do your best or take their time to explain how a given task should be done or improved. The firm tries to keep their employees attitude on a postive note by having mentors, mentors lunches, firm lunches every friday, anual boat trip, ski trip and holiday dinner. One of the great things of Prospect is how they are considirate if each person family situation and how they try to involve the employees families on their firm outings and events. Prospect is a little bit different than other companies but this gives you the oppurtunity to learn skills outside of your field, grow within the company, learn the company in and out and outshine in your given projects.

    Cons

Prospect has had many issues with other complaining about the pipeline call management but this has been on of the things that is being worked on. Any issues encountered within the firm can be fixed by providing a recommendation to the the administration team, human resources or the higher ups. Those that do no have self motivation, "lazy" or easy going would not benefit from the company.
