I worked at Quality Distribution full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay & benefits. Every company has their short fall's and Quality Distribution has a few, but the good easily out weigh the bad.

    Cons

The affiliate model does not work in Energy! If Corporate could grasp that, they could absolutely be #1 in Oil & Gas transportation .

    Advice to Management

    No affiliates in Energy

    Pros

Good money when you are moving. They ALWAYS paid on time - sometimes leaving out some of the smaller things that you had to go back and fight them over...

    Cons

Too much disconnect between affiliates and even between terminals within an affiliate - Too much competition for good loads. And that doesn’t even start to talk about competition between company drivers and O/O.
My issue was waiting at a tank wash for four days and nobody was interested enough to put pressure on tank wash to help me out –
they were too busy with DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK!!!!

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your drivers, let them know what is going on and at least make some effort to support the drivers.

    Cons

Being away from home too long if you aloow them to keep dispatching you on loads.

I have been working at Quality Distribution full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Treat drivers well, small company atmosphere with the power of a large corporation behind it. Drivers are union so the union backs the driver in salary, raises, and problems. Dispatch is willing to work with drivers to get them home when they need it beyond their normal time off. Home time is normally 4 days off every 10-14 days out unless the driver chooses to stay out longer.

    Cons

As with any trucking your away from home for long periods. Also since the company is leased on with Quality Carrier you have to put up with them. Erickson management is much better than Quality's. One example - Quality has company speed limit of 65 and requires trucks governed at 65, which Erickson would not.

    Pros

Working at Quality Distribution in a business professional capacity can at times be rewarding. The complexity of the business being done leads to a great amount of personal growth for people early in their careers.

    Cons

There are two things that you need to look out for if you are considering a job with Quality Distribution. The first thing is benefits. On the surface it appears as if they offer a competitive benefits package. However the truth is learned if you dig a little deeper. The 401k matching is a whopping 6 cents on the dollar up to 6 percent of your pay. The "profit sharing" plan is laughable as the earnings targets are simply unattainable. The tuition reimbursement plan is pretty much a contract for indentured servitude. And finally the health insurance is way too expensive for what you actually get. The second thing is, the actual state of the company! Employee morale is very low and the company just doesn't seem to be performing very well.

    Advice to Management

When telling employees about the state of the company, choose your words wisely. Don't tell people that the company is doing fine and then a few weeks later lay 60 people off. It really does send the wrong message.
