Pros

Good swag and nice office with lots of plants

Cons

- High school level drama and cliques create a toxic environment - Selling boxes gets old fast -No room for advancement. ROOM has a habit of hiring older men to fill exec / management roles while hard working female employees get pushed out. -Run like a tech startup but valued like a furniture company. Employee equity is worthless.

We have been extremely fortunate at ROOM to experience such dynamic growth over the course of the last two years. So many incredible employees, current and former, have contributed to our success and deserve recognition for their hard work. We believe that our past and future success cannot happen without a diverse group of talented individuals working together, and are hopeful that every team member hired advances with ROOM in line with their personal career trajectory and their ROOM-specific role and responsibilities. To date in 2020, we have promoted 15% of our total staff and these promotions have been equally divided between men and women. Our leadership team currently consists of nine individuals, three of whom are women. In our last 10 mixed level recruitments, seven of the hires were women and three of those seven were for senior-level positions. We will continue to ensure ROOM's employee base consists of a diverse mix of team members, all passionately dedicated to inspiring a better way to work.

Pros

-Location -Snacks -Leaders try to make an effort to care but it falls short and does not come through

Cons

-No loyalty towards employees. To be expected at any employer but it really shows here. -You are replaceable at any time despite great work ethic. -Division -Growing pains of a startup. Disorganized and ambiguous. -Empty promises at their convenience to string you along. -Experienced unconscious bias and lack of diversity. -Cronyism

Pros

- Nice office for a startup, pre-COVID - Decent location (SoHo) - There are still a handful of exceptional people working there, who deserve greener pastures

Cons

- Poor leadership and management - Exploitation is favored; employees are maltreated, often lied to, pitted against one another, and manipulated - Extremely toxic culture; unhealthy work environment that is encouraged and rots from the head-down - Unclear future and longevity of company given their product and business model in current times

We have always felt strongly about putting people first at ROOM, both internally with our team, and externally with our customers and partners. I am so sorry to hear that you had this experience, and take ownership as Head of People and Culture that we did not uphold these ideals or fulfill this mission from your perspective. We take your concerns to heart, and are continuously working to improve ourselves, our culture, and our business overall, to ensure that our existing team members, and future team members, experience the people-first culture that has been top priority since our company’s founding. I hope you have found an exciting new opportunity, and that you and your family are healthy and safe
