Just plain scary

Pros

Product is okay, but is it marketable enough to sustain a company and support customer projects? Maybe work at Rhythm Engineering if you've zero other options. Company could soon go under, you could be fired, or you might quit. Maybe that's a "pro".

Cons

Plenty of "cons". Suffice it to say this place seems to floundering even more than before and management appears, at best, to have a questionable agenda.

Pros

- Able to take charge and influence the direction of projects, if you have the desire - Great coworkers

Cons

Unfortunately there are too many cons about Rhythm to list here. The problem (as many reviewers have stated) starts at the top. You have a company owner who admits he doesn't know how to run a business, yet continues to stick his nose into everything. He hires COOs who are yes-men to run the company, and then he takes over departments because he just can't let go. The latest COO has already caused turnover in senior management by a combination of not knowing how to run a start-up and not being able to work with managers who stick up for their subordinates. If you aren't a yes-man too, you'll probably be "resigned" shortly. Two R&D dept heads have been "resigned" in the last 6 months for sticking up for their employees and caring about our products. Basically, the closer you are to the owner/CEO, the more limited the lifespan of your job here will be. Other problems include the lack of any market analysis before new products are thrown into development by the owner, absolutely ZERO security in our systems and products, and a general lack of knowledge of how our products work outside of junior staff or a few people in R&D. While this may seem like an awesome place to work in an interview due to the relaxed atmosphere and easy schedule, please do yourself a favor and avoid this place unless you are only looking for short-term employment.

Went From Best to Worst Company to Work for in Kansas City

Pros

Coworkers, some really great people work here. Unfortunately nobody has any authority except for the CEO.

Cons

The structure of the company, the CEO, and extremely high turnover rate. When I first started at Rhythm, I liked my job. I loved the people and I really enjoyed my work. But, soon that changed. People that were my friends -- and great employees -- were randomly fired. There was no warning and no reason. This has continued to happen over and over again. Most of us walk around at work knowing that the CEO may decide to fire us at anytime. It's brutal and no way to work. Not only have their been way too many firings for a company this small, but some awesome people have quit -- some without even having new jobs -- because the culture and atmosphere is so bad. The CEO is the worst manager of people that I have ever seen. He constantly changes his mind and is always giving us new "strategies" that contradict what he said the day before. There is no predictability about the company and really there is no future. This is not a place to build a career, but a stopping point to look for a better job. It's a hard pill to swallow because it could be such a great place and in fact, I think it used to be. It's just not anymore. The smoke screen that Rhythm puts up may make it seem like an awesome place to work, BUT IT'S NOT. It's not the truth. People are afraid at work of what will happen to their job or the company. I can't think of anyone I know that works here that isn't looking for a new job. I wish Rhythm well, but I also wish I would have read reviews like this before starting work here. So, if this can make a difference for someone then it's worth it. Ask around about this company, see what other information you can find out, don't just base your judgment on what they tell you.
