I worked at Saputo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Unionized workplace means pay and benefits are better than comparable positions at other companies. There is a ton of turnover, so if you are desperate for work, they are always hiring.

    Cons

Constant overtime -- when I quit, we were averaging 60 hours work-weeks. Standing for 10+ hours a day doing repetitive motions is pretty hard on your body. Shift supervisors are combative and seek to find fault with employees rather than trying to be supportive and motivating. Everything from promotions to vacation time is seniority-based, so good luck advancing or trying to take summer/holiday weekends off when you're new. Very little vacation time at first, and takes a long time to accrue a fair amount of paid time off. A minority of my male coworkers were incredibly inappropriate with me, and with other female coworkers. (Lewd comments, inappropriate questions, inappropriate physical contact, including groping female employees, cornering female employees, and pressing up against female employees.) Supervisors/Human Resources did not care, and did nothing to address it.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that your high rate of employee turnover is inefficient and more costly than providing a more pleasant work environment to maintain a longer-standing employee base.

I have been working at Saputo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, pay, opportunity for overtime

    Cons

Production is union, so some of the employees play the union game

    Advice to Management

Be more strict for the employees who have a track record of being lazy

I worked at Saputo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Full time plus overtime most weeks

    Cons

Not competitively paid. Not much room for much financial growth.

    Advice to Management

New temporary employees should have a small class where they are shown different finished products, both good and bad so they know what is expected and what is unacceptable. Most of the new people have no clue what they are looking for in the product.

    I worked at Saputo full-time

    Pros

    Supportive and knowledgeable floor staff.
    Good pay and great benefits.
    401K matching.
SAP roll out, while an internally shaky experience, was badly needed. Props to the company for a long overdue ERP update.

    Cons

Depending on the department, management support is either present or virtually nonexistent.
Management tends to play favorites and does not do much to hide doing so.

    Advice to Management

Communicate. Do so regularly, and preferably in writing so no one conveniently forgets what was said later.

Be supportive, encouraging, and please stop playing favorites with your staff members.

Listen to the staff when they answer your questions and don't automatically dismiss their input.

Provide your staff with the tools to produce the results you want. We want to produce results, too.

Morale is very low right now. The staff on the floor regularly communicates with each other regarding these issues and many have the same complaints.
