I have been working at Scaled Composites full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

100% paid benefits for me and my family to include life insurance. 401k matching. A free gym. Family business fun feel, everyone is working towards one goal, no matter your title. It's kind of cool. Working for a company that is in business to pursue breakthroughs. Engineering works closely with the shop. Small teams. My boss values me. Encouraged to have fun with co-workers on and off the clock. Tool loans....

    Cons

Mojave is a desolate town (I hear we are getting a Starbucks soon), but Scaled is worth it.

I have been working at Scaled Composites full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Where else can you work and be directly involved in many high technology aviation projects? Great benefits.

    Cons

    Educational opportunities are nearly non-existent.

I worked at Scaled Composites full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Job titles are mostly irrelevant at Scaled - you are flexible to work on just about anything you want. The people are intelligent and well balanced, and overall it is a laid back fun environment. Great spot for those with high ambitions and good work ethic. Many people to learn from and a great place to grow.

    Cons

Very little training and little oversight. It can be easy to slip through the cracks. All positions stem from engineering, even management and other non-engineering roles, so everyone is a jack-of-all trades position, and not many are experts at their specific roles. Pay is low relative to prime aerospace contractors.

    Advice to Management

    More training! More mentorship.

I have been working at Scaled Composites full-time

    Pros

You get to work on multiple fascinating projects, noting is repetitive. Plenty of overtime available. Benefits are FREE, vacation accrual is quick and the 401K match is above average.

    Cons

More competent management is needed to run the company better.

    Advice to Management

Bring in new leadership with the ability to manage large programs.

I have been working at Scaled Composites full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Environment is relaxed, plenty of opportunity for overtime. 401k is probably one of best I've had with an employer contribution of 8% $.75 to the $1 and paid benefits

    Cons

Terrible middle management, almost no growth opportunities. Pay is sub-par compared to other orgs. Upper management should be more involved

    Advice to Management

Allow Scaled to exist as a separate company from Northrop, stop paying your employees the minimum salary in the industry.

I have been working at Scaled Composites full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Free healthcare, laid back environment, if you pay attention you will become an expert in composites.

    Cons

No way to progress in the company unless people in other departments are your friends. Your hard work is not appreciated anymore. Don't even try to deal with the maintenance or the aircraft electrical side of this company. They will never give you the opportunity unless you are a friend of someone already in the department. As most people are saying here the pay. It has gotten better over the years I have been with...

    Advice to Management

Review your departments and remember what scaled used to be. Give everyone opportunities to move around and learn new crafts, and if they have experience in fields don't just treat them as fabricators. Give them the opportunity to show you they know what they are talking about. Get rid of the "buddy" system that requires people in that department to like you in order to work there. People with real skills threaten the...

    Pros

Limited processes allow workers freedom to choose

    Cons

Tons of required overtime. Cliqueish culture.

    Advice to Management

Make schedules based on realistic production time and manpower requirements. Do not start with an end date and try to fit everything in.

I worked at Scaled Composites for more than a year

    Pros

there are really none, over work and aggressive attitude towards employees is common place.

    Cons

Really bad management, not concerned with the health or welfare of there employees, threats and over work are common place. more concerned with the "project" they hire people with several years (20 to 30 +) of experience, yet they will not use there talents in these fields, but make them work on menial tasks that have nothing to do with there knowledge or experience. will not take there advice when they see projects...

    Advice to Management

overhaul your middle management, ( and most upper management too) stop making it a dog eat dog environment get an HR department that actually does there job ( and middle management too) try to listen to the people who have years of experience in there field and utilize there knowledge. some of us have several years of experience in flight test and evaluation, but are not impressed at all with you approach, it is dangerous...
