I have been working at Schnabel Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented and dedicated engineers and scientists who care about their clients and projects; a strategic vision for the company that is being systematically implemented; strong individual office culture in each of the 19 locations; visible presence in social media and related professional organizations; career growth opportunities and rewarding environment for technical staff; casual dress code; up to date technology and equipment; ESOP distribution and 100% vesting in five years; company contributes to HSA.

    Cons

Possible work/life imbalance, depending on position, staffing and deadlines; high deductible medical insurance plan; not so much a "con" as the reality of working for a larger firm, but the location of offices and number of people make it financially unfeasible for all staff to ever gather in the same place at the same time.

    Advice to Management

The future looks very bright and we are on a solid path. A few comments: Refine the on-boarding process for new hires; rely less on traditional internal hierarchical structure and more on the most direct and efficient lines of reporting and communicating; continue rewarding excellent employees--technical and non-technical--and mentoring the up and comers; and continue inviting candid feedback from employees through one-on-one conversations as well as formal surveys.

I have been working at Schnabel Engineering full-time

    Pros

Benefits, the comrodary, and dedication of fellow coworks.

    Cons

The travel time, the poor time management from upper management down to admin to create reports to have to stay late to ensure they went sent to the client before the end of the day.

I have been working at Schnabel Engineering full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many paths for personal growth in the civil/geotech engineering career path. Upper management recognizes the sacrifices made when traveling for long term jobs. Coworkers genuinely care for your well being and success in the company.

    Cons

Pros mentioned above do not apply to all offices. Lack of diversity, very white male dominated culture.

I have been working at Schnabel Engineering full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

An emphasis on strong mentoring and guidance. Performance is recognized and rewarded accordingly. Emphasis on high quality deliverables. Encouraged to be a seller-doer and a soup to nuts design engineer; this keeps work interesting. Feedback is constructive.

    Cons

Cons are mostly market driven; Geotechnical engineering is increasingly becoming commoditized, and Dam engineering tends to span a large geography.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage involvement and training in our most profitable business lines. As our company grows, continue to maintain contact with each and every employee.
