More Pros and Cons

  1. "Service Credit Union"

I have been working at Service Credit Union part-time

    Pros

Benefits are great, even as part time. Coworkers are fantastic as well.

    Cons

There aren't many cons to working for Service Credit Union. The only con that I can really think of is that there isn't necessarily a lot of employment option aside from the Corporate Office in Portsmouth.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest having either more branches or just more opportunities within branches. In addition, working from home for the Corporate Office might attract more applicants.

I have been working at Service Credit Union part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

401k plan is good. they still put in money for you, though ill bet that benefit is going away like a lot of them did

    Cons

Benefits went way downhill in the time I was there. Health insurance was very expensive. Few opportunities to learn or advance as it is not a big company and most jobs are low pay and dead end. They did very little for their employees. No one wants a teeshirt or free pencil or piece of cake. They wat a decent paycheck and some respect for the work that they do. No more pension, raises have gone out the window, the upper-crust keeps all the money for themselves and doesnt feel the least bit bad about it.
There is a big divide between the rich and poor workers here. It was discouraging to work there. Most jobs are low pay and dead end. Most of the lower paying workers are women and most of the highest paying jobs are held by white men. management didn't care about being inspiring or encouraging. They didn't treat people the way they want to be greated.
They had little respect and many of them didn't treat people well. it was like being in jail and the management were jail wardens. i worked at two locations and the culture was the same. It was old fashioned, 1960s militant mentality. There were very few people I've met that worked there that can both handle people with respect and kindness and also have the intelligence to do there job correctly. Its just like the Office Movie, only worse because it is real life. its a total dead end and very depressing. No one cares there. You will just be a number. f you really want to make money and improve your life, do not get a job at a placelike this as it will just eat your life away. Find a way to start your own business.

    Advice to Management

Think before you talk to someone and consider your words and how the person will hear it. Dont be anasshole. Get some management training and not just that yearly mandated trainng. Think about how you treat people before you take action and ask yourself if you'd like to be treated that way. People are not cattle or dogs, they are people and it would be in your best interest to try to develop your staff and get to know them and show that you care about their interests and opinions. Too many managers are on their high and mighty horse, just dictating orders and being snotty to people and thinking they are smarter than their employees. its just a job, its not armageddon and you are not as important as you think you are. Have some humility. Try to care about what you are doing and show respect to those around you. Just because you have a higher job classification doesn't mean you can look down on others. dont always assume people are stupid or incapable and judge them. Very judgemental mentality here. people dont treat people the way they would like to be treated.

I worked at Service Credit Union full-time

    Pros

Good benefits package, paid time off

    Cons

Takes reps who are not yet ready to go from a MSR to LSR. They fast track reps through the loans process which leaves the member service side of the call center portion short staffed. Management has a tendency to play favorites. Not much room for advancement.

I worked at Service Credit Union full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefit package, 401K contribution is set at an automatic 8% from the company.

    Cons

The company is inconsistent. Rules/regulations vary from branch to branch. Also, management really should be evaluated; lots of Seacoast branches have senior-employees who've been with the company a long time and are just "grandfathered" in. They live in the past and are resistant/discriminatory against millennials. Also, they all know each other and have a gossip phone tree. Half of the time I sat back and watched my manager socialize all day.

    Advice to Management

Salaries should be higher, and rules/regulations should be enforced the same way at each location.

Know and do your job, and it will get you recognized and promoted in a timely manner.

    Cons

Some mid level management is allowed to stay on despite general incompetence.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with the bottom level employees, and clear with expectations and what policy actually is.
