Beautiful land, poor management

Pros

Beautiful land, loving animals, proximity to ocean, and trails a plus. Food is wonderful, either sourced from the farm itself and/or contributed from the local farmers market.

Cons

Poor management, disorganized, and shared housing is in very poor conditions (rat infested buildings and mold are a large, but ignored issue). Lower staff (teachers and ranch management) have very little say in decision making despite being the employees that get the majority of the work done. Prohibited or limited communication to board and public about living and working conditions. BIPOC folks are often tokenized when convenient, but their actual concerns are disregarded. The organizations claims to have DEI interests as the primary concern, but it is VERY much used as a political propaganda, no actual change has ever occured. Issues are dealt with at a superficial and internal level, customers and students are often unaware of buried problems but catch glimpses when emails fail to be received and conditions are far less than what was promised. Ultimately, Slide is a place with so much potential, but poor upper management has led to a HIGH turnover rate, gross housing conditions, disgruntled employees, sick animals, poor living/work life balance, and an unfortunate decline in the diversity of students that are actually able to visit Slide Ranch.

Pros

Great location is all. ED will let ya know and hold the amazing space against you. Good seasonal or jumping pad employer. Do not stay long. Culture is toxic, bad pay bad hours.

Cons

Bad pay, not competitive. Hours are all over especially for interns. Other staff required to work weekends 5-6 times a year. Culture is toxic, from home to work life balance the culture starts from directors and not healthy and toxic. Some directors live on site and makes work life work balance almost impossible.

Executive Director Unfit to Lead

Pros

Beautiful location and some great people work there

Cons

The Executive Director is detrimental to the success of Slide Ranch. She is hurting the mission via her dishonesty and entire lack of any leadership skills. I didn't know a single employee who trusted or liked her. She bred a toxic culture and from what I hear it's still the case. It's such a shame because Slide Ranch has so much potential. Employees are treated very poorly.
