    Pros

Great company if you're pushing to create innovative product. Management structure seems to have been improved over the last few years. Great employee benefits and more time off then most companies. Great work environment with a lot of talented people with minimal political issues

    Cons

Long work hours. Most departments seem to be understaffed. Development schedules are currently being moved around quite a bit. hopefully this will lead to improved development processes

    Advice to Management

There seems to be a lot of challenges with having its executive teams located in Toronto when much of the design and development resources are located in Los Angeles

    Pros

NONE absolutely NONE - poor communication unless you are a PC or want to talk to a tablet...

    Cons

    Horrible person to person interactions

    Advice to Management

Actually use person to person communications as opposed to electronic communication.. Electronics can fail then you do too.

    Pros

great team, hardworking fun-loving people. I recommend this place to team oriented people looking to work hard. The people are the best thing about this place

    Cons

Red tape, as the company becomes more corporate. There is too much management at the top that often competes with one another. This conflict can create stalemates.

    Advice to Management

Remove some pressure from the workforce, they are overworked and expected to do even more than what they are scrambling to accomplish.

    Pros

Some new energy late in the year; hopefully it stays. Career path seems to be a big deal, which is good. Creative environment, yet messy. A lot of autonomy (which can be bad). Bagels. Free toys and an additional day off because of a Canadian holiday.

    Cons

Zero executive management and leadership in the Los Angeles office; Toronto execs come once a month, if that, and stay in meetings then dish out change or orders like a bull in a china shop. Top heavy; many directors and several VP's but no real leader on-site. Seems like accountability is nonexistent and rules & guidelines are ignored, not even broken. Poor communication between management and staff and between colleagues. There is a sense that anyone that's not a Director, is a peon. Accounting is usually always late to pay bills; no on-site accounting or payroll. HR seems disorganized.

    Advice to Management

Appoint or hire someone that's actually managed a company and then let him/her serve as an on-site (LA) COO or CAO. You're rarely in the office and when you are, you're running at full speed and missing out on everything. Engagement surveys mean little when you don't show steps taken to improve based on your most valued assets (your team) responses. We make toys for kids (and think like them, creatively) but don't let us run the place.

    Pros

Nice people in general, fairly creative environment

    Cons

Super unirganized. The owners take turns running the company, a couple are astute, one is inept.

    Advice to Management

Certain iwners need to let et the specialists do their jobs, rather than ramming their same juvenile and unsuccesful ideas down the employees throughts, and then aming them when it is a failure.

    Pros

    Good brands and innovative product...

    Cons

Imagine running a large company in Excel with no proper systems or procedures, it is amazing that this company is still afloat. Lots of finger pointing to other departments because everyone is confused on what their job really is. NO work/life balance with crazy schedules and unnecessary work.

    Advice to Management

Invest money into your infrastructure, review your managers and see what is really going on day to day... Just because someone has been there for 5 years doesn't mean they deserve a promotion.

    Pros

Freebies and off week after christmas

    Cons

The REAL ops manager is very pompous and has no management Needs to go through management training.and HR needs to look at the sexiest coments as well.

    Advice to Management

founders obviously need cash due to going public. Founders need to stop playing tennis with Agassi and running with Hollywood and focus on business. WAKE UP guys.

I worked at Spin Master full-time

    Pros

You work from home although there really is not enough work to keep you busy for the whole week. You get to travel to attend meetings and to train new hires.

    Cons

Senior management can be difficult to work for, and there is no room to grow. Job is very repetitive with the same initiatives over and over, although the product is always changing. Department pretty much functions on it’s own, so you have to try and find things to do. Repetitive conference calls with department management throughout the week just to pass the time.

    Advice to Management

More effort should have been put in place to work with reps who needed some extra help, instead of replacing them and constantly going through the hiring procedures again. To much time spent on creating processes and not enough time spent on developing the retail merchandisers.

I worked at Spin Master full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - the company is establishing itself as one of the leading innovators in the industry
    - beginning to learn how to build brands, not produce one hit wonders
    - talented design team
    - free bagels, free toys
    - holiday closure between christmas and new years
    - "half" day fridays

    Cons

    - very, very very top heavy
    - too many different changes being mandated from different chiefs up top who are not 100% aligned
    - increasingly becoming a political environment
    - fun factor is gone
    - anyone that is director and below are being treated as work monkeys

BOTTOM LINE: the company is in good shape thanks to great innovation and great partnerships with the right animation studio/networks. Your experience at Spin Master will GREATLY depend on your team and your manager. CHOOSE WISELY. If you are interviewing or considering a position, make sure to ask ALL the questions and do some research on your manager AND your department leader. What is the turnover rate? How many people have they lost from their team in the last 12 months? How many have they promoted in the last 3 years? Use your network to do some research...don't rely on the 20 minutes of facetime during the interview.

If you are under the right leadership and management, this is a great place to learn, grow, and have a blast.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate all managers. The ones you like working with may not be the ones people like working for.
