I have been working at Spire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Overall nice people who seem to really enjoy what they do. Great facilities and up to date technology. Solid benefits.

    Cons

No onsite cafeteria or gym at 700 Market, but there are both across the street. Not super convenient. $80 a month for garage parking.

    Advice to Management

Promote cross-functional movement within the company.

    I worked at Spire full-time

    Pros

Work/Life balance is good for the industry.

    Cons

Pay isn't very good and current work structure is flawed. There are too many people involved just to accomplish a simple task.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and maybe then the overall morale would improve.

    Pros

Honestly, there are not any pros dealing with this company.

    Cons

Unfortunately, when I went through orientation, I was told all lies. When I finally started working, the environment was a bit aggressive.

    Advice to Management

None Honestly. I am disgusted with this company in general. terrible place to work as well as a former customer in the Birmingham, AL area.

I have been working at Spire full-time

    Pros

Fantastic work culture. Everyone I work with is interested in collaborating to create the best possible finished product. Employees and management alike attend all of the events held (baseball games, lunches, etc.) There are great opportunities to develop your career as well. Spire does a great job of giving people assignments that will develop their skills in a a way that is mutually beneficial for both the employee and the company. The work life balance is also a huge plus. Every manager I know will work with you to make sure that you are taken care of as a person rather than just another employee.

    Cons

I have not experienced any cons so far

I have been working at Spire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I admire the focus on making sure the customer is considered in every decision that's made, they really do live by that.
It's pretty laid back. Nothing about my job is overly stressful or hectic.
The people are great (with the exception of a few).
The company itself cares about you as a person and your well being.

    Cons

The word "engineer" gets tossed around in such a way that it makes you realize no one is either capable or willing to make decisions about trivial issues without an "engineer" involved. It really degrades the whole purpose of being one.

In relation to this previous point, an engineer at Spire/Alagasco does very little technical. Check fittings on install drawings and size regulators. Any tasks assigned as you gain seniority does not seem to become any more interesting or challenging. All in all, the "engineering" done at Spire is, in all honesty, unfulfilling.

The company also seems to have an inability to deal with people who consistently hinder work flows and slow projects to a halt.

Bottom line, if you're an engineer who wants to have technical challenges and intriguing opportunities, this is not the place for you. If you're happy just showing up, working no more than 40 hours, and collecting a stress free paycheck on your path to retirement, this is your Mecca.

    Advice to Management

The culture is good, you're doing a great job of creating a healthy work environment. You listen to your employees and actually try to incorporate suggestions of improving work process. Kudos for that.
