Pros

If you're considering an opportunity at Wagestream, I’d like to provide you with a candid perspective from my years of experience at the company, going all the way back to 2019. To sum it up quickly: while not without its imperfections, Wagestream is an incredible organization filled with exceptional, driven, and dedicated individuals. Surrounding yourself with such talent could be transformative for your career, as long as you maintain realistic expectations and stay focused on your goals. It's evident that the company's recent endeavors have sparked skepticism and even, at times, hostility, not all of it totally unfounded. However, while I acknowledge the jarring impact of some actions and the understandable frustration of those who found themselves in challenging situations, I believe that the sentiments expressed in certain Glassdoor reviews over the past year do not accurately capture the overall experiences of the majority within the company. Many of these reviews fail to consider the behind-the-scenes complexities, especially in the context of startup culture. The concerns raised in these reviews are multi-faceted, and I feel it's important to recognize that individual perspectives might not always align with the complete reality or at times, may have lacked vital information. That said, there are a few items addressed in certain reviews that bring up valid concerns that could have and should have been handled with greater care. To be absolutely transparent, I have certainly had moments of strong disagreement and have been utterly frustrated or even dismayed by certain decisions and actions taken by the business. Unsurprisingly, these have mostly occurred within the last year as Wagestream is navigating increased complexities, moving from a plucky start-up to a more mature stage of growth. Nonetheless, if the right opportunity presented itself, I would eagerly jump back into the fold without hesitation—tomorrow. Why, you might ask? Because at Wagestream, everyone is wholeheartedly committed to creating positive change while achieving business success. The pace is exhilarating, requiring adaptability and acknowledging that missteps are part of the journey. But in the midst of it all, innovation thrives, and you can play a pivotal role in shaping it, no matter your position. Now, you might be wondering why I chose to leave. My departure was motivated by the fact that my role was no longer essential for the company's current trajectory, and the available options didn't align with my career aspirations. It's a straightforward reality of startup culture, and I harbor no ill feelings. The company graciously supported my decision and went above and beyond to assist in my transition. The People team at Wagestream are absolute heroes, who truly care about the well-being of their staff, past and present. In closing, Wagestream isn't flawless, but the dedication, innovation, and sense of purpose that permeate the company are remarkable. Embrace the dynamic nature, contribute to the ongoing transformation, and you could find yourself on an exciting journey of personal and professional growth. Success here requires perspective, adaptability, and a proactive approach. Your experience can be as enriching as you make it.

Cons

The company is going through some growing pains that might be tough for some, but overall, the hard decisions have already been made, if you're being brought on at this stage, you most likely have a bright future.

Pros

If you are lazy then this is the place for you, because there are no measurable metrics so all the work falls on the people who actually care/try. You can get away with answering some customers and allow the other people to do 90% of the work. Oh and you can even get a promotion with this type of work ethic. Your co-workers are nice and it’s cool in that aspect but wow. I thought this place was going to be great, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. I just felt catfished by the time I left. The best thing it did was put a tech job on my resume. It’s fully work from home and you get a nice extra screen along with a MacBook.

Cons

They will take advantage of you this is a guarantee. Tier 1 reps are asked to work on tier 2 queues with zero training, zero pay raise, and then you get to train newly hired tier 2. Because hiring someone above the people doing the work instead of promoting them is the theme here. A team lead who did the brunt of all the work was paid the same as a newly hired tier 2 that they trained. When they found out they got a job that more than doubled their salary, and then was portrayed as having a toxic mindset that they couldn’t get over. I guess knowing when you’re being taken advantage of and getting paid your worth is toxic? You can make more working a drive thru. It’s obvious that the management team has never gotten real management training. They are floundering around trying to make sense of heads or tails and base all their decisions on emotion. If they like you then you’re great! The manager who referred to the employees as “roadkill” got promoted, isn’t that amazing? They are “nice” people in an outside world setting, but they will lie and cover up what they need to in order to save face. They’ve even promised someone a raise because they were doing a bunch of tier 2 work then took it away, promoted 3 other people who hadn’t been there even 3 months or so, because again, taking advantage of people is the name of the game here. There’s hardly any documentation, and if there is it’s more than likely outdated and incorrect.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to provide this review. It is a difficult one to read and we are very sorry to hear this was your experience as it does not resonate with the culture or community we are focused on fostering here at Wagestream. Though we were not able to gain more specific insight from you before you left, please know that we continue to focus on constant improvement - both of the product and our employees’ experiences. Since your departure, we have made it a policy to hold exit interviews with our leavers; and we will use the feedback from those sessions to help us to iterate and improve. As with many companies of our age and size, there will always be growing pains as we navigate the best possible route from start-up to scale-up. We wish you the very best for whatever’s next and thank you for your efforts whilst you worked at Wagestream. Sophie from the People Team.
