    Pros

There are hard working people who should be getting paid more then they do.

    Cons

Management sucks!!! Do NOT get the flu when you are on probation period. Especially when getting sick isn't under your control and you wake up and can't move. They don't care about your well being. Doesn't matter how good of an employee you are. You can be the best at your job and still get fired because you caught the flu. And management stick together so it's pointless trying to explain are do anything about it

I worked at TMK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for all the way around. Communication has improved greatly over the years I worked there. Management and employees both see the downturn in the oil industry and lean manufacturing is getting leaner and meaner. I was very happy to work with all of my employees and management team. I learned a lot from all of the teams.

    Cons

Oil industry work is always going to be up and down. Massive overtime when everything is going strong, very few hours and layoffs when things take a downturn.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the communication to the employees. In this economy it may be time to diversify the products being made to keep the doors open. Pipe threading is not the only product that can be made it those machines.

I worked at TMK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The group that I was in was newly created with the intent to track yield and eliminate or reduce yield losses. My managers were very understanding of how to allow young engineers to flourish and were not micromanagers. The people there were great.

    Cons

No support for projects. Attempting to collect data that was never previously collected, it was difficult to get support at the plant level to collect this data. The amount of resources available also had a large amount to do with it. Definitely not an industry to be involved in currently due to the downturn in the market.

    Pros

Great competitive benefits plans and 401k. Individual people are some of the best I have worked with. Very diverse group of employee's.

    Cons

No opportunity to grow, lack of ANY management leadership, wishy washy decision making by leadership with absolutely no concise plan or communication to adjust. Layoff process was handled very poorly coupled by bad decisions to promote people that are completely inept at their job just because they can kiss butt better than people that are capable. Must be Russian or Russian speaking to keep a job here and be treated with any kind of respect. Worst company in the world to work for. Salaries are subpar and not competitive in the marketplace as advertised. One of the worst managed companies to work for. The executive "managers" (not leaders) of this company have no idea what it is to actually lead the organization through tough times. There are no real procedures or processes in place to guide employee's and managers.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Treat your employee's as talent assets with the respect they deserve. Many of your employee's have earned degrees and graduate degrees which means they are more than qualified to make good decisions. Bring your talent into the early discussions and get their input, it can be valuable especially when trying to get buy in and improved employee engagement. This is an American division of a Russian company and important to realize that though it is important to understand the Russian culture, it I see more important to realize that TMK IPSCO is in North America and has to understand the American culture. Get your salaries aligned with the marketplace. Do what the bell you say you are going to do, quit with the double speak and sneaky B.S.

I worked at TMK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are very good. Lower level employees try hard to do good.

    Cons

Hourly employees are called off with no notice for two weeks or more. Directors micromanage every aspect of daily activities. No advancement opportunity. "Managers" have no leadership powers because everything is dictated to them. People are afraid to make decisions.

    Advice to Management

Learn the difference between leadership and managment. "I wouldn't want to be managed into battle". Managers run programs, buildings, and equipment. Leaders inspire greatness. Stop micromanaging day to day activities and let people do their jobs. Empower them, get out of your own way.

Progressive company with forward looking vision. 20 years of service with excellent pay and benefits. Was very happy working there and left with many friendships that will last a lifetime.

    Cons

Laid off with 1 month severance and no insurance. Bad way to treat employees after many many years of dedication and service.
