I worked at Tessera full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation, benefits and work life balance

    Cons

Management hires only friends and insiders to keep in their inner circle (qualified or not) . Place where all good IP goes to die.

    Advice to Management

Changing the name hardly changes the culture. Retain employees who are capable instead of the ones who suck up to all your ideas. Hire younger people in management roles who can actually make a difference instead of good for nothing old executives

I worked at Tessera full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Financially sound. Lots of perks. Great salaries, great benefits.

    Cons

IP licensing model carries some risk, but Tessera managed to negotiate some lucrative long term deals. So far so good.

    Advice to Management

New management, led by Tom Lacey, did a wonderful job of improving the company's profitability and increasing the share price. So, don't change a thing.

I worked at Tessera full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Lots of variety on project assignments
    - Fast-paced
    - People take ownership for their work

    Cons

    - Little upward mobility within the company
    - A culture that tries to find scapegoats instead of taking communal responsibility for failures

    Advice to Management

Focus on what Tessera does best. Look at the actual impact projects will make and don't make decisions simply on what appears to work. Use better quantification techniques to make decisions.

    I worked at Tessera full-time

    Pros

The industry is rich in new technology and Tessera has been working on IC packaging for years. Good tools and modeling software available.

    Cons

The money maker is licensing of IP and technology. Licensing is often achieved by lawyers threatening legal action. Infringement claims of past narrow technology is the money maker, not current real world technology.

    Advice to Management

Inside the walls is an OK place. Outside companies have had a long negative history with Tessera and do not trust them. They are very careful not to engage Tessera.
