I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Can work on multiple projects, wear many hats, learn different parts of the business. Should have opportunity to interact with different functional areas, suppliers, and member owners.

    Cons

Career pathing can be ambiguous (small/mid-size company), does not have strong telecommuting culture. However, HR is actively working to address these.

    Advice to Management

Resist temptation to reward good work with more work. Continue down the path of attracting a 21st century workforce.

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good health insurance and vacation time

    Cons

No room to move up as they always hire from the outside, over worked and underpaid, and more importantly is that you will never be appreciated or rewarded for hard that goes you do for your above and beyond work. Why work harder if you never even acknowledged?

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good base pay; pretty decent PTO policy; lots of work so you'll never be bored or un-engaged; opportunity through Sr. Manager level for upward mobility it you work hard;

    Cons

Low bonus % relative to other companies; sick time comes out of PTO and they only offer the bare minimum number of paid holidays ( 6); high workload with too few resources/assets to properly complete everything assigned which translates into a high stress work environment; "old school" mentality among much of middle and upper management which leads to a lack of progress in work environment and company culture; no real work from home option (recently introduced what they call a telecommuting program which is simply an option to work two days a month from home and comes with a bible of rules so they're not exactly embracing the concept and are still years behind where the better companies are today); unwilling to admit when they got something wrong, instead pushing ahead and wasting time and resources on projects that aren't working or don't make sense; take forever to make decisions and seem to need endless committees and meetings to make basic choices; being "owned" by a board of directors who seem to be out of touch with what the worker bees do everyday and need to do their jobs; having 50+ bosses in a cooperative that has an incredibly difficult time actually cooperating; benefits are only average at best (insurance, 401k, etc).

    Advice to Management

Fight harder for a more progressive work environment and to secure appropriate resources for the workload. Still too much attrition which only increases stress.

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall Topco has been a nice place to work and the ACT committee puts together fun activities several times a year.

    Cons

The new management brought in has been making uneducated changes without thinking about the greater good and long term effects on the department and company! Current employees are beyond scared of losing their jobs.
It seems that many higher ups are aware that they selected the wrong candidates but are unwilling to aknowledge the fact that it’s not working out.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep your hard working, dedicated employees, seriously consider long terms plans instead of making drastic changes and replying to every (valid) question with “we’ll figure it out.”

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is good, benefits are good. People are nice and enjoyable to work with.

    Cons

To many meetings! Also could do without HR's Goals and competencies.
Things were much simpler 4 to 5 years ago. I just want to do my job without all the meeting and the stress of Goals and competencies.

    Pros

Topco is currently undergoing a tremendous amount of positive change, including implementing new technologies, hiring new and fresh employees, and mapping out new and better processes. All of this change makes Topco a great place to work because the impact an employee can have is unlimited! If you want to make a difference in the way a company thinks and operates, Topco is a great choice. Be prepared to be on top of your game each day, as the employees are smart, vocal, and engaged.

    Cons

Meetings take up a large portion of the workday.

    Advice to Management

Continue down the path of implementing best-in-class solutions for the good of the company and its membership.

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best aspects of Topco include mentorships and career growth. The environment is very collaborative across departments so employees get outside exposure to possible career paths. There are meaningful project work opportunities, especially within the continuous improvement group. Can work from home when needed.

    Cons

Going through SAP integration has taken a toll on many. The emphasis on high performance makes me feel bad for taking vacation / personal time.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate and applaud management's ability to recognize and award high-performance employees and grant project opportunities to those who deserve the exposure.
