    Pros

Lots of change has transpired over the past three years that are driving this company to become a stronger, more strategic partner. Exciting future ahead with the right systems in place, right processes and right people in right roles.

    Cons

Still pockets with silo mentality and individual way of doing things versus alignment to one way of working for the membership.

    Advice to Management

Continue on the path of change as progress is being made!

I worked at Topco Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Convenient office location, good benefits package. Support from coworkers created irrevocable bond. Marginally lower pay than industry was supplemented with strong benefits package. Was mentored by some very talented and knowledgeable individuals, but many have at least one foot out the door.

    Cons

Left because they expected too much from too few. Hard work ethic is not recognized through pay. Only way to move up is to change departments as openings become available, and most silos have their own process/procedures that do not fully align, limiting growth potential. Most veterans at the top are disappearing and new colleagues are not as focused on the "team-culture" as the old was.

    Advice to Management

Work towards creating a "Topco family" again, it worked! Promote from within and harness the knowledge that can only be gained from working up the ladder and working very closely with member / owners stimulate connections across members / category managers at the bottom. Stimulate and mentor those who are eager to grow with the company, and dump those who are dragging you down. Get rid of Topnotch and encourage/enable managers to present real bonuses for excellence. Don't allow cost of living awards for mediocrity. You have some excellent top performers - they don't all need to be showcased, just work on keeping them, you know what motivates them.

    Cons

There are a few pockets within the business where management is creating a toxic environment.

    Advice to Management

You are hitting a sweet spot in areas where management is supportive, open and willing to develop associates. Act fast in the areas where you know there are problems.

I worked at Topco Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

PTO vacation 3 weeks plus holidays

    Cons

Toxic environment. Does not seem like anyone there longer than maybe a year is happy. The Transformation is causing 100,000 of dollars in backlog and Accounting errors that are atill not being solved but written off. But those in charge of Transformation hitting bonus for keeping on timeline.

    Advice to Management

Face reality on wrong decisions and allow employees to do what good at versus afraid to voice opinions. Do what you say is mission instead of coverup.

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very competitive base salaries; regularly pay out at or near 100% on bonuses; trying to improve culture and reputation

    Cons

Low bonus % relative to comparable positions at other companies; higher benefit costs vs. similar roles at other companies; no vesting in 401k until 2 years of employment have been completed; business model makes it difficult to achieve goals, individudal cooperative members often make it difficult to do what's best for the entire cooperative

    Advice to Management

Work on cost of benefits and a more progressive workplace environment to attract and retain talent long term, especially young talent to sustain the company. Also be more realistic about the time needed to implement processes and strategies and do more thorough preparation; understand what it will truly take to get things right the first time vs. moving forward asap and causing a lot of unnecessary work to fix issues that could have been prevented.

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits and great lower level people

    Cons

Old boys club where women in upper management are merely tokens. Atmosphere in management is so polluted the last 2 Human Services Directors quit due to blatant sexism, and insular, arrogant upper managers. Project Everest is a spectacular failure which is being concealed from owners, (members). The company morale is in freefall with astronomical turnover. You have almost zero chance to come up to upper management thru the ranks, invariably, management comes in from the outside, former fraternity brothers and friends of management. Absolutely zero career development program.

    Advice to Management

My advice to the members is to come in, and fire everybody in upper management who is responsible for Everest and the sale of IT to Capgemini. What happened to the mentoring program?

I worked at Topco Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits were good, discounts on their products from a mini-mart inside the building, good place to learn CPG, Supply Chain, Logistics and Marketing.

    Cons

poor morale, vested time for 401K is too long and favoritisms.

    Advice to Management

How much more do you think you can consolidate? SAP fixed yet?

I have been working at Topco Associates full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Smart, competitive, fun group of people focused on a common set of goals for members and customers. Flat organizational structure provides associates at all levels with access to executive team. Communication is open and feedback is encouraged.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for growth. Retention has been an issue. Some roles are more administrative than should be due to outdated processes and tools. Company is undergoing change initiatives to address.
