    I worked at Trefis full-time

    Pros

Flexible work environment, some good people, interesting technology.

    Cons

    Dishonest management, zero transparency.
No benefits at all - they ask employees to provide their own computers, no health insurance etc. The reason provided is "we're a startup" - except the company is almost 10 years old.
Compensation was poor to begin with and was actually cut after that (with dishonest, condescending reasons given for that).
Culture was good at first, but was completely ruined by the dishonest, unreasonable, incompetent CEO (it's possible that it's improved since then, but if he's still in charge I doubt it).

There is honestly no reason why anybody should want to work there.

    Advice to Management

    Get a competent CEO.

    Pros

I worked with Trefis as a UX consultant.

    Cons

I was engaged to design some revisions to the Trefis product. The founder asked me to concentrate on a particular section of the tool; we had a pleasant conversation, and then I took a bit of time to generate some new designs. When I showed the designs to the founder, he became very upset, and demanded to know why I hadn't worked on a section of the tools we hadn't discussed, in order to impress him (?!). I declined further work.

I know others in the design community in Boston who have done work for this company. Their experience is similar to mine. Avoid!

    Advice to Management

Learn about the design process, and don't expect people to perform mind-reading in addition to more mundane design duties.
